ON September 9-10, India hosted the G-20 Leaders' Summit at New Delhi's iconic Bharat Mandapam.  The New Delhi Leaders' Declaration was adopted during the Summit. Also, upon India's initiative, African Union became a permanent member of the G20. PM Narendra Modi handed over the gavel to the President of Brazil as the next holder of the G20 Presidency.  On Sept 02, India's first Solar Mission Aditya L-1 was launched successfully by PSLV-C57, which has begun its journey to the destination of Sun-Earth L1 point. On Sept 15, on the eve of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Speaker Om Birla and External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar greeted their counterparts and the people of Israel. On Sept 21, to commemorate Haifa Day, the Embassy and the Municipality of Haifa paid tribute to the valiant soldiers of Indian cavalry regiments that helped liberate Haifa in 1918.  President Droupadi Murmu has given her assent to the Women Reservation Bill which was passed by both the Houses during the recent special session of Parliament. The law provides for 33% reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies across the country.  On Sept 27, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar delivered India's Statement at the General Debate of the UN General Assembly in New York. On the sidelines, he also addressed the event "India-UN for Global South: Delivering for Development", in which the leaders of Global South spoke on India. 

2. ON the economic and commercial front, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, Global Biofuel Alliance and  India-Middle East- Europe Economic Corridor were launched. On Sept 22, Secretary (ER) Shri Dammu Ravi attended the India-Israel-UAE-USA (I2U2) Sherpas Meeting held on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly-78, where the Sherpas of I2U2 countries unveiled the new I2U2 website and also launched the I2U2 Private Enterprise Partnership. On Sept 25, Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal addressed the World Coffee Conference, held in Bengaluru. 

3. IN the innovation domain, India retained its 40th rank out of 132 economies in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2023 rankings, according to a report by the World Intellectual Property Organization.  On Sep 13, scientists from the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), under DST announced a potential treatment route for Alzheimer's disease found in polyphenol.  On Sept 6, researchers from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, announced development of innovative low carbon construction materials using 3D printing technology, which can be used for carbon sequestration and utilisation to reduce carbon emissions in the building industry. 

4. ON the cultural front,  on Sept 17, Santiniketan and Sacred Ensembles of the Hoyasalas have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. On Sep 5, India remembered Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India, who devoted his life to strengthening the education system in the country. Since 1962, his birthday is celebrated as Teachers' Day in India. On Sept 14, on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, Indian Cultural Center (ICC), Tel Aviv organized a webinar with renowned Hindi language teachers in Israel, along with their students. On Sept 16, India celebrated the festival of Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. On Sept 19, India celebrated the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi . On Sept 28, India celebrated the festival of Milad-un-Nabi . On Sept 14, Embassy along with Israeli friends celebrated Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year. 

5. ON the consular and community front, applications are open for the 68th- 75th Know India Programme (KIP). An initiative by the Ministry of External Affairs, Know India Programme is a 3-weeks 'knowledge programme' for Indian youth diaspora.
