maddalena d'Alfonso
Maddalena d’Alfonso is an architect, essayist and researcher. Qualified Associate Professor in 2017 - following the doctorate cum laude, in 2004 - she held courses at IADE, Portugal and Politecnico di Milano, Italy, among many other academic organizations. Her ability to combine research with museographic culture has been applied to the conception and design of cultural exhibitions and projects.
The architect’s innovative method of interdisciplinary investigation stems from the interest in the theoretical and visual analysis of architecture, art, photography and landscape, connected both to history and present day architectural issues. She conceived cultural projects for the Fundação Gulbenkian (Portugal), the Fundação Iberê Camargo (Brazil), the MIT Museum in Cambridge (MA, USA), Triennale di Milano and Politecnico di Milano, Italy as an architect, concept developer, designer and curator. She has been a member of DASTU (Department of Architecture and Urban Studies of Milan) and founded Md’A Design agency where they provide content curation, creative design solutions and ideas to define and re-define every project.
d’Alfonso’s publications include: Two Museums by Àlvaro Siza (Electa 2009); De Chirico. O sentiment from Arquitetura (Camargo 2011), Città Sospesa. L’Aquila dopo il Terremoto (Actar 2015), Come lo spazio trasforma l’arte come l’arte trasforma lo spazio (Silvana 2016, Milan) and the book Warm Modernity (Silvana 2016, Milano), which has recived RED DOT award.
The exhibition “The landscape of rights. Photographing the Italian Constitution” designed and curated by arch. d’Alfonso in 2017 for Comune di Milano – received the Medal of high representation from the Presidency of Italian Republic.
