Definitions
- This invention relates generally to a type of building product mixing system .
- Certain building materials such as adhesives and renders, are supplied in powder form, which requires mixing with water. These products are typically packaged in 20 kg bags for commercial use. Once mixed, these products have a relatively brief usable period, often 40 minutes or less, necessitating on-site batch mixing.
- the mixing process usually involves a bucket and a mixing tool, which features a shaft with a mixing head, often spiralled, at its distal end, and a connection to a power tool at the proximal end. Due to their higher viscosity compared to other substances like paint, adhesives and renders demand a more potent mixing tool, for example, a 2 kW electric drill.
- the present disclosure provides a mixing system designed to enhance safety and efficiency in mixing operations, especially suited for use with viscous materials such as adhesives and renders.
- the system comprises a mixing container equipped with a specifically designed locking interface at its base, and a complementary base platform featuring a corresponding locking interface. This design ensures that, once the mixing container is positioned atop the base platform, it engages in a non-rotatable lock, effectively preventing unwanted movement during the mixing process.
- the base platform includes a standing region where the user can stand, anchoring the system securely to the ground.
- the system may be engineered to accommodate substantial product weights, such as up to 27 kg, within the mixing container, ensuring that the container remains firmly interlocked with the base platform throughout the mixing operation.
- This system addresses and mitigates common challenges and hazards associated with mixing operations, providing a safer and more efficient solution.

- Figure 8 shows an underside perspective view of the base platform of Figure
- Figure 1 shows a mixing system 100 comprising a mixing container 101 and a base platform 102.
- the mixing container 101 defines a mixing container locking interface 103 at the base of the mixing container 101.
- the base platform 102 defines a base platform locking interface 104 which is configured to non-rotatably interlock with the mixing container locking interface 103 when the mixing container 101 is placed on the base platform 102 in the manner shown in Figure 2.
- the locking interfaces 103, 104 may be more than 1 cm deep.
- the base platform 102 further defines a standing region 105 adjacent the base platform locking interface 104.
- the mixing container 101 is non-rotatably attached to the base platform 102 by placing the mixing container 101 on the base platform 102 so that the mixing container locking interface 103 interlocks with the base platform locking interface 104 so that the mixing container is non - rotatably (i.e., with respect to a through axis of the mixing container 101 ) held by the base platform 102.
- the user stands on the standing region 105 to anchor the base platform 102 and is therefore able to use a mixer to mix product within the mixing container 101 without the mixing container 101 rotating and without having to hold the mixing container 101.
- the standing region 105 may define foot placement regions 106 on both sides of the base platform locking interface 104. In use, the user could place a foot in each foot placement region 106 so as to non-rotatably secure the mixing container 101 between the legs.
- the base platform locking interface 104 may be towards a first edge 107 of the base platform 102 between the foot placement regions 106 so as to conveniently place the mixing container 101 just in front of between the feet.
- Each foot placement region 106 is preferably sufficiently large to accommodate up to size 16 work boots and, in this regard, may have a length of greater than 30 cm and a width greater than 1 1 cm.
- the first edge 107 may define a central outward transition 108 to accommodate the base platform locking interface 104 without unduly increasing the surface area of the base platform 102.
- the base platform 102 may define a planar undersurface 109 so as to be able to lie flat on the ground.
- the base platform locking interface 104 may be raised with respect to the planar undersurface 109.
- the base platform locking interface 104 is a male-type locking interface and the mixing container locking interface 103 is a female-type locking interface so that the mixing container locking interface 103 inserts into the base platform locking interface 104.
- the locking interfaces 103, 104 are configured to non-rotatably interlock by requiring only the insertion of the mixing container locking interface 103 into the base platform locking interface 104.
- the mixing container 101 may be simply placed on top of the base platform 102 to non-rotatably interlock the mixing container 101 of the base platform 102, without requiring more complicated twist lock engagement and the like, for example.
- the mixing container locking interface 103 may define radial interlocking tabs 1 10 which slot into corresponding slots 1 1 1 of the base platform locking interface 104 as is shown in Figure 5.
- the locking interfaces 103, 104 comprise a quadrant of locking tabs 1 10 and slots 1 1 1 although other configurations are envisaged.
- the base of the mixing container 101 may define an outer periphery 1 12 and the radial locking tabs 1 10 preferably do not extend beyond the outer periphery 1 12.
- the base of the container 103 may define an arrangement of reinforcement ribs 1 13. These reinforcement ribs may comprise radially orientated reinforcement ribs 1 13A and circularly orientated reinforcement ribs 1 13B.
- Each tab 1 10 may be defined by an arrangement of radially orientated reinforcement ribs 1 13A and circularly orientated reinforcement ribs 1 13B.
- the base platform may define a raised edge 1 14 to collect any spilt product.
- the base platform 102 may further define a handle aperture 1 15.
- the handle aperture 1 15 may be towards a second edge 1 16 away from the base platform locking interface 104.
- the handle aperture 1 15 may similarly comprise a raised edge to prevent spilt product leaking therethrough.
- the central outward transition 108 may be moulded to form a handle whereby the base platform 102 is devoid of the handle aperture 1 15.
- the mixing container 101 preferably defines a circular cross-section.
- the mixing container 101 may be substantially frustoconical. In other words, the diameter of the mixing container 101 may increase from the base up so that the maximum diameter of the container 101 is at an upper open end thereof.
- the mixing container may define a pouring spout 1 17.
- the spout 1 17 may define a wiping edge 1 18.
- a product trowel may be wiped against the wiping edge 1 18 to remove excess product which falls down the spout 1 17 into the container 101.
- the wiping edge 1 18 may be straighter than the surrounding rim 1 19 of the opening of the container 101. In the embodiment shown, the wiping edge 1 18 defines a radius greater than that of the surrounding rim 1 19. In alternative embodiments, the wiping edge 1 18 is straight.
- the wiping edge 1 18 may be sufficiently wide to accommodate the full width of commercially available product trowels. In embodiments, the wiping edge 1 18 has a width of greater than 10 cm.

- a mixing tool having an elongate shaft may be connected to a power tool at a proximal end thereof and expose a mixing head (such as a spiralled mixing head) at a distal end thereof.
- the mixing head may be placed within the container so that the elongate shaft go through the mixer shaft aperture 121.
- the lid 120 may define a mixing shaft collar 122 surrounding the mixing shaft aperture 121.
- the mixer shaft aperture 121 is preferably substantially centrally located as is evident from Figure 7.
- the mixer shaft aperture 121 may have a diameter of approximately 25 mm.
- the lid 102 may define a slot 123 interfacing the mixer shaft aperture and an edge 124 of the lid 120.
- the slot 123 may be opened to slide the shaft of the mixing tool into the mixing tool aperture 121.
- the lid 120 may define living hinges 125 orthogonal with the slot 123 and which may intersect the mixer shaft aperture 121 , thereby defining a pair of flaps 126 which may be independently or simultaneously open.
- the flap 126 may be moved apart to open the slot 123 to slide the shaft of the mixer tool into the mixer shaft aperture 121 as alluded to above. Furthermore, during use, one or both of the flaps 126 may be opened to add additional product or water to the container 101 .

- the lid 120 further comprises interior clips on inside edges of the outer extensions 127 which clip under the rim 1 19 at the spout 1 17, to thereby hold the flaps 126 closed.
- the handle engaging formation 131 comprises a single aperture for engaging a wire handle. However, in alternative embodiments, it may comprise a wider aperture (which may be noncircular) to accommodate a clip of a plastic handle. In embodiments, the handle engaging formation 131 comprises dual apertures designed to accommodate either a wire handle or a plastic handle in a versatile manner.
- the mixing container 101 preferably has a capacity greater than 10 L, further preferably a capacity of greater than 20 L and further preferably a capacity of approximately of 23 L or 27 L.
- the mixing container 101 has a capacity of approximately 27 L
- the mixing container 101 has the capacity to accommodate a full 20 kg bag of powdered product (such as adhesive, render or the like) with additional volume for approximately 7 L of water.
- the components 100 of the system may be manufactured from plastic and further from an injection moulding process.
