,l f `'.l'lzna Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, REUBEN DNIELS, of Woodstock, in the county of Windsor, and State of -Vermont, have invented a new and improved Triple Bearing for Axles, Shafts, 85e.; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull', clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled -in the art to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing, forming part of this specilication, in which-f` j Figure 1 represents a vertical transverse section of my improved triple bearing.4 A
Figure 2 is azdetail perspective view of the adjustable portion ofthe same. f
Similar letters off reference indicate corresponding This invention relatesto a new'axle-bearing, which is'to be so connected that it can be used for a considerable lengthof time, and that it can at any time be readj usted, when worn, by merely turning one or more set-screws.'
' The invention consists in inteiposing, in an internal` groove of one of thepiecesoonstituting the body of the liournal-box, a loose bar, or plate, of anti-friction i metal, which can be forced against the axle, `or shaft by means of one or more set-screws, and which wil1 therefore, keep the shaft tight in 'itsbearing, as it can be forced further down when worn. A, in the drawing, is the lower, and B the upper part of a journal-box, of ordinary form.
` In the upper part, B, is arrangedan internal groove, a, in which a bar, orv plate, O, of anti-friction metal is placed, said bar, or plate extending from end to end f the box, or at least as far as the bearing-surface of the box. f v
The bar, or plate A can be forced against the shaft D by means of one or more set-screws E, or other equivalent mechanism, vfitted into the outer box B, as shown. l
Instead of being entirely made of anti-friction metal, the plate (l may be made of hard metal, and lined pn its working-face with anti-friction material.
The inner face may be hollowed out, as shown, or otherwise constructed.
Two or more such adjustable plates, 0may be arranged in the box, and either or all of them maybe either in the upper or lower part of said box.
When the face of the plate C, or any other part of `v the box, or the 'shaft D wears, the screw E is turned to force the plate down again upon the shaft, and the latter will thus remain in a close-iitting journal-box,
i however it may wear itself or the box.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The journal-box A B, provided with the supplexnentary beari'ngplate G, adjustable by means of the set-screw E, substantially in the manner herein4 described, for the purpose specified.
