LEIPZIG-LEUTZSCH, GERMANY.
HERMANN CARL GROS, OF
FASTENING DEVICE.
Application filed February 6,
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented March 10, recs.
190s. sci-n1 No. 299,647.
To all. whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, Hermann CARI. Gnos, subject of the King of Wurtemberg, residing at Leipzig-Leutzsch, Lindenstrasse; German (this also being'post-ollice address,) ave invented new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fastening devices.
A fastening device involving my invention ma be successfully employed in connection wit wearing apparel such as boots, gloves, belts, etc., as well as traveling appurtenances, such as bags, valises and the like.
A fastening device made in accordance with the invention is simple in construction effective in use and is capable of ready and easy mani ulation.
In the rawings accompanyi g and forming a part of this specification, I illustrate forms of embodiment of the those skilled in I will set certain simple invention which to enable the art to practice said invention,
forth in detail in the following descri tion, while the novelty of the invention will included in the claim succeeding said description.
Referring to the said drawings, wherein all the views are in section, Figures 1 and 2 show the two mom rs of the fastening device separated. Fig. 3 shows said members as connected together. Figs. 4 and'5 are views correspont ing with Figs. l and .2 and illustrating a modified form of the invention. FL. 6 is a view corresponding to Fig. 3 of said modification.
Like characters refer to like parts throughout the several figures.
The fastening device comprises a female member as C and a male member as ads.
e female member. 4 the fo I he invention shown in Figs. 1 to 3, he male member which go te has series ted to enter and to be removably held f Fig strip of sheet metal doubled on itself to produce prongs 0" and C. The formation oil these prongs or therebetween into which is adapted to be thrust the male member or engaging plate C. This female member can be provided with side parts or checks which serve to in'. close or conceal the male member when in the female member so as to pre ent a more ornamental article as it hides the rough sur-- face of the male member but said side checks j' are not-necessary elements of the fastener. As the female member is made of sheet metal the upper prong or branch C exerts c continual tendency of yielding toward the lower prong or branch C Upon the inne. side of the lower branch or prong C is illns trated a projection or nose (1 usually mad rigid or integral therewith, while the top prong has a projection or nose 9 which may as shown in Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive, constiti' one branch of the an le lever u. pivoted 'f to the outer end 0 the upper pron which up er prong it will be seen is s' than the ower or companion prong C. nose 9 is therefore movable with respect to the nose d.
In Figs. 1 and 2 1 show the two members of the fastening device as separated, while in Fig. 3 such members are shown as connected together. Referring to Fig. 1, it will be seen that the long arm of the angle lever is up. the short arm g of said lever stand ng at an angle whereby the male member C can l introduced into the female member, tho teeth upon the opposite sides of said molo member being so shaped as to secure this suit. When the male member is inserted in the female member to the requisite extent and when the nose (1 is situated in the space the lever 11 will be swung down as shown in 3, so as to carry the short crm or nose antile space between two ripper lcctli hold the male member against withdrawal. the teeth f lmvin in?! this rcsull branches produces a cavityq w ll l between two of the teeth f. the long arm ol a is swun up as shown in 4 the male l pron and a male member adapted to be enmernber will be released and can be easily 5 gage( by said pivoted locking means for separated from the female member C. 1 connecting the two members together.
What I claim is: In testimony whereof I have hereunto set A fastening device com risinfila female my hand in the presence of two subscribing 5;; member and a male mem er, t e female witnesses.
member comprising an upper and, a lower HERMANN CARL GROS. pron? the upper prong being resilient and of Witnesses:
ese ength t an the lower grong, locking RUDOLPH TRICKLE,
gmeens pivoted to the free en of the upper SOUTHARD P. WARNER.
