Description

F. W. KLEVER. POCKET TOOL SGISSORS.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 9, 1906.
PATENTED JUNE'25, 1907.
.UNITED STATES PATENT oFFIoE.
FRIEDRICH WHJHELM KLEVER, OF SOLINGEN, GERMANY.-
POCKET-TOOL SCISSORS.
1'0 all hom, it may concern;
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH WILHELM' KLEVER, manufacturer, a subject of the German Emperor; and a resident of Wiesenstrasse 5 14, Solingen, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket- Tool Scissors, of which the following is a specification. I i
The invention relates to a pair of pocket to scissors fitted with useful tools and so adapted as to serve when closed as a handle part for other separable tools.
To the scissors are attached by means of .hinges handle parts whichbeing hollow, fold I5 over the scissors when the same are closed and permit them to be carried in the pocket without danger or inconvenience.
In the drawing :Figure 1 shows a view of the scissors when open and ready for use. Fig. 2 shows a view of the pocket scissors when closed, with a knife blade inserted and firmly attached. Fig. 3 shows a cross section on line A B of Fig. '2.
The continuations a of the blades 1) are hinged by means of pins pm the handle parts a. When the scissors are in use as in -Fig. 1 the handle parts a press against the pins (1 which are situated on the blade extensions a little farther than the pivots p from 3 the fulcrum of the scissors.
Thescissors are adapted to beused for many different purposes, such as screwdriver, cigar-cutter, pipe-pliers, wire-cutter, nail-file, glass-cutter, glass-breaker, perforating wheel, ruler and measure. Further, the handle parts can be used as measure and hammer and serve for the insertion of many useful tools which are separable from the ac tual'pocket scissors but adaptedto be used 4 with them.
. The blades are loosely attached to one another at the fulcrumo, which is formed so that they can be detached from one another at this point when at right an les. In order to closethe scissors the han e parts a are bent over the blades, and pressed together against the action of the spring f. The col- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 9, 1906. Serial No. 329,853
Patented. June 25, 19.07.
lar k, which is hin ed at the end of one of the handle parts, is t en turned over the other handle part, so that the scissors are held fast together inside the handle parts. In this position they can be carried in the pocket without the possibility of harm or inconvenience arising from them. The collar is thickened at the end so that it can be used as a hammer. Since the handle arts are hollow and fold over the blades, so t at the latter are inclosed within the former, the scissors when closed take up little space, and can be conblades, saws, files and the like. The base of the tool has a notch at each side as at m in Fig. 2 and is inserted through the collar is so that the pins n fit into the notches m. When the collar 7c is turned down overthe other handle part, the tool is held firmly in position by the two handle parts and is ready foruse.
The advantage of the above described folding pocket scissors is that it contains in itself many useful tools, and can be readily fitted with other and larger tools provided for the purpose, and for which the folded scissors serve as a handle part. 7 5
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a pair of pocket scissors with two hollow handle parts folding over the blades, the combination of ins at the end of each han- 8o dle part, of too s rovided with notches in their base ends a apted to fit behind said pins,'and a collar hinged on one handle part adapted to fold over the other handle part and hold the said tools in position, substan- 8 gally as described, and for the purpose speci In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 15th day of June, 1906, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. 9o
FRIEDRICH WILHELM KLEVER.
