IMPROVEMENT IN' PLAYING-CARDS.
Speeajieatt'on forming part of Letters Patent No. 82,134, dated September 15, 1868.
To all whom 'it may concern Beit known that I, JOHN J. LEVY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Playing-Cards; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

This invention relates to a new manner of forming the edges of playingcards, for the purpose of facilitating the shuffling of the same, and to prevent them from splitting.
The invention consists in providing' the cards with beveled edges, either double beveled or single, so that they are narrower at the edge than in the middle.
The cards are thus made sharp-edged and will be more readily wedged between each other while being shuffled, the edges are not so apt to split, and the cards consequently last longer than those with square edges.
A in the drawing represents a playing-card provided with a single-beveled edge, ai, as in Fig. 2, or with a double-beveled edge, b, as in Fig. 3.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' l As new/articles of manufacture, playingcards provided Evith beveled edges, substantially as herein shown and described, and ior the purpose set forth.
