l Be it known that I, F. B. BATQIIELDER, of Prairie du Chien, in the county of Crawford, and State-of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Broom-Holder; and I do hereby declarethat the following is a full, cl'eunnnd exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art'to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, forming part of this specication.V

The object of this invention is to furnish a. cheap and convenient article for holding brooms, mops, brushes, and other articles `cfa similar nature, used for household or other purposes.

And the invention consists in combining 4two blocks or pieces of wood, metal, or other suitable material, which blocks are semicircular on their inner sides, so that, when placed'in'contact, the two form a divided block, having Aa conical or Baring orifice through it for the introduction of the handle of a.b1oorn,-b rush, or other article to whichit maybe adapted.

Figure 1 represents a vertical section of the holderattached to the wall, with a broorninscrted.

Figure 2 is a bottom view of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, The blocks, A and B, may be formed of either wood or metal, or other suitable material, and oany desired shape on their outside, and of any desired size.-

Each-part has a semicircular orifice on 4its insidie, so that when placed together,.as4 seen in the drawing, a full circle, witlra conical or flaring h-ottom, is formed,'as seen at C.

. The bottom of l the orifice is ared `in this manner for the purpose of guidingthe end of the handle of the broom or other article to the orifice. i

The two blocks, A and B, are connected together by the legs of coil-springs, one of which springs is seen ing. 1, marked D..

Onepart, A, is attached to the wall, or to any`convcnien`t fixture, by a screw, e, as seen in the drawing. fis ancrifce in the part B, for aifording access t'o the screw with a screw-driver. IThe part B beingconnected with A only by the springs D and by the guide or dowel-pins F, it will be 4seen that the aperture formed by the two parts can be expanded when the handle of a'broom or other article is introduced, and that the'two blocks or parts, A and B, form a. spring-clasp,,for;securely holding any article of- Ygreater diameter than the hole or orifice is in .its normal condition. i I

The advantages of. this arrangement will Abez-cadily understood and appreciated by those who desire to have a place for everything and to see everything in its place.

I claim as new, and desire to secure by -Letters Patent--` The blocks A B, each formed with a semicirc'ular recess in its inner face, and connected together by the spring D, all constructed and arranged to operate inthe manner and for the purpose substantially as set forth.
