Description

@einen rates .atmt @Hire GEORGE H. LPTON, OF CLEVELAND, 4OHIO. Letters Pamela), 70,236, me october 29, 1867.
IMPRoVleD rsieu-riisfn;n En
TO lALL WHOM IT OONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. LUPION, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga, and State of'Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Mode of Hanging Windows and Doors; and I do hereby ,declare that the following is a. full and complete description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of the door or window.
Figure 2, a vertical section.
Like letters of reference refer to `like parts in the views presented.
This invention consists of a method of fastening' the upper and lower shutters or windows with a single bolt at once.V thereby making them secure from being unfastened from without, and which is accomplished in the following manner: l
In iig. 1 Afis a bolt secured to the lower shutter or window B by a plate, C. In the upper end of this bolt is a hook, D, tig. 2, which, on the bolt being turned to the position shown infxg. 1, catches in thestaple or loop E, secured to the upper shutter F. Thus the two are fastened to each other, and also to the window-sill F,'by` the lower end of the bolt, whichis pushed down into'a hole or socket sunk in the sill. The' lower end of' the bolt being provided with a nib, catches in a. slanting groove, G, cut in the side of the hole, which, on the bolt being pushed down andl turned, draws the shutter tight down upon the sill, thus making it close and secure against wind and rain or Ithe insertion of any implement for the purpose of raising it up. The bolt', whenthus in the socket, is indicated by the dotted lines lGr, iig. 2, and in which H is the nib referred to. The dotteddines in iig. 1 indicate the direction of the groove in which the nib is lodged when in the socket. Projecting from the middle of the bolt is a short lng, I, iig. vl, in which is pivoted an arm, J, provided with a knob, K. This arrangement is for the purpose of lookin/g the bolt when the shutters are closed andthe bolt dropped into the socket, which is done by sliding the arm under thecatch K', fig. 2, and which is shown thus locked in iig. 1, thus giving to the bolt great security when the doors or windows are closed.
What I claim as myinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- ,y
The bolt A, hook D, and loop E, as arranged in itsA application to the shutters B and F, for the `purpose and in the manner substantially as specified. I
forth GEORGE H. LUPTON.
