(No Model.)
S. BOZANO, PBRMUTATION PADLOGK.
,573. Patented Mar. 17,1896.
j H n AN DREW BLRMMM. PHUTo-UHIOAWASHINGTOMDL.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STEFANO BOZANO, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO IASQUALINA CALEDONIA, OF SAME PLACE.
PERM UTATION-PADLOCK.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 556,573, dated March 17, 1896.
Application filed October 15,1895. Serial No. 565,762. (No model.)
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEFANO BozANpo, a citizen of Italy, and a resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Permutation-Locks, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in the patent for permutation-locks granted to me September 24, 1895, No. 546,969, and it is carried out as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l represents an outside elevation of the improved lock shown in a locked position. Fig. 2 represents an interior view of the said lock shown in a locked position. Fig. 3 represents a similar interior view showing the lock open.A Fig. 4 represents a vertical section on the line 4 4, shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 represents a longitudinal section on the line 5 5, shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 6 represents a detail perspective view of the slitted guide in` which the bolt is guided. Fig. 7 represents" a detail side view of the locking-bolt. Fig. 8 represents end views of the letter-disks; and Fig. 9 represents a cross-section on the line 9 9, shown in Fig. l.
Similar letters refer to similar parts wherever they occur on the different parts of the drawings.
A A' represent the front and rear portions of the inclosing shell or case, to which are secured the bottom piece A" and end pieces A3 A4, as is common in padlocks.
B is the bow, as usual pivoted at b and having a hook or lookin g recess B in its free end,
as shown.
In a longitudinal recess in the front plate, A, is guided the slide O having a thumb-piece C on its outside and having a projection C" on its under side adapted to engage with a notch or recess D on the longitudinally-adjustable bolt D, as shown.
E is a block secured to the rear portion, A, of the inclosing shell, and to said block is secured the longitudinally-slitted sleeve F, having on one of its sides a slit f, in a manner like that shown and described in myprevious patent above mentioned.
The bolt D is longitudinally adjustable within the sleeve F and is provided with a series of side projections d cl cl, Figs. 4, 5, and 7, as in my former patent.
H H H are a series of numbered or lettered annular disks journaled on the sleeve F and having a portion of their peripheries projecting through openings in the plates A A', as usual. Each of the disks H H H has on its interior a longitudinal groove h adapted to receive the corresponding projection d on the locking-bolt D, like that shown and described in my aforesaid patent.
I is a locking-lever pivoted at 'L' and having a hook I at its upper end, which is normally held in locking engagement with the notched end B of the bow B by the inuence of a spring K, as shown in Fig. 2. The lower end of the locking-lever I is normally held in contact with a projection Dll on the locking-bolt D by the influence of the spring K, as represented in Figs. 2, 3, and 5.
Vhen the disks H H H are all turned to such a position that their longitudinal grooves h h [L are in alignment with the projections d CZ CZ on the bolt D, then the latter may be moved freely toward the left by pushing the slide C in the same direction, and in so doing the projection D" on the bolt D comes in contact with the lever I and thereby causes it to swing on its fulcrum t' sufficiently to cause its upper hooked end I' to be disengaged from the hooked end B of the bow B, which is thereby liberated and caused to swing to the open position by the spring Ii, as shown in Fig. 3.
In closing the lock it is only necessary to swing the bow B into the locked position shown in Figs. l and 2, after which the disks I-I I-I H are turned around suficientlyto cause their grooves h to be placed out of alignment with the bolt projections g g g.
Having thus fully described the nature, construction, and operation of my invention, I wish to secure by Letters Patent and claim In a permutation-lock, in combination an inclosing case, a pivoted bow B, a longitudinally-adjustable slide C having a projection C" on its underside, a stationary slitted sleeve F, a locking-bolt D longitudinally adjustable in said sleeve and having `side projections d, d, Dll and groove Dl engaging with the slide IOO proj ecton C", ztseries of lettered or numbered name to this speccation, in the presence of disks H, H, journaled on said sleeve and havtwo subscribing Witnesses, on this 2d day of ing internal grooves h and a spring-pressed October, A. D. 1895. hook-lever I adapted to interlock with the STEFANO BOZANO.
5 free end of the bow B substantially as and Vitnesses:
for the purpose set forth. ALBAN ANDRN,
In testimony whereof I have signed my LAURITZ N. MLLER.
