UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY W. HATHORN, OF CLEAR LAKE, IOWA.
FELT BOOT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 384,155, dated June 5, 1888.
Applicationfiled February 13, 1888. Serial No. 263,859. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY W. HATHORN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clear Lake, in the county of Gerro Gordo and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Removing Felt Boots of which the following is a full and clear description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure represents a perspective view of a felt boot having my improvement applied.
This invention relates to certain devices applied to the leg portions of felt boots whereby the same may be readily removed from the foot; and the invention consists in a strap or loop secured at one end to the leg of the boot, near the lower portion, and a pocket or recep-- tacle on the heel portion, into which the loop or free end of the strap may be inserted, as I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now describe the same and indicate the manner in which I carry it out.
In the said drawing, A represents any wellknown form of felt boot, and B represents a strap secured near the rear lower portion of its leg, and having its lower end free and forming a loop, a, by means of which the boot may be readily drawn from the foot.
In order that the looped or free end of the strap may be held so that it will not serve as an obstruction to the wearer in putting on the overshoe or otherwise, I secure upon the heel portion of the boot a pocket or receptacle, 0, into which the free end of the strap may be inserted when the boot is off the foot.
When the wearer wishes to remove the boot, the free end of the strap is pulled out of its pocket or receptacle and the finger or thumb inserted in the loop. A pull upon the boot will now readily remove it from the foot.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a felt boot having a strap or loop by which it may be removed, of a pocket or receptacle into which the free end of the strap or loop may be inserted, substau- 5o tially as described.
HENRY. w. HATHORN.
