Field of the Invention This invention relates to a garment hanger for suits which is of two piece separable construction.
2. Description of the Prior Art There have been designed many different types of garment hangers for suits but they all have shortcomings in that they require removal of the coat in order to gain access to the trousers which often results in mussing the coat. Also, upon undressing the coat must first be removed by the wearer and put aside or hung upon some other support, the trousers are removed by the wearer and may then be hung on the hanger, after which the coat is mounted on the hanger in surrounding relation to the trousers.
The present invention provides a garment hanger for suits whereby the coat is hung on a main hanger, which may be of conventional type and the trousers are hung onan auxiliary hanger which can have its trouser carrying portion offset in front of or rearwardly of the location on the main hanger on which the coat is supported.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A garment hanger for suits is provided which has a main coat hanger and an auxiliary trouser hanger which receives the trousers exteriorly of the coat and which may be attached and detached from the main hanger if desired without disturbing the coat.
It is the principal object of the invention to provide a garment hanger for suits which supports the trousers outside of and independently of the coat.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a garment hanger for suits which is of two piece separable construction so that the auxiliary trouser hanger can be employed with coat hangers now available.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a garment hanger for suits which is simple in construction but sturdy and dependable in service.
Other objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the description and claims.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The nature and characteristic features of the invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part thereofin which;
FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of the hanger and showing in phantom a fragmentary portion of a suit hung thereon;
FIG. 2 is a vertical sectional view, enlarged, taken approxi mately on the line 2-2 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a horizontal sectional view, taken approximately on the line 3-3 of FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of one component of the auxiliary hanger employed in connection with the invention;
FIG. 5 is a view similar to FIG. 1, but on a reduced scale and showing a suit coat in place on the hanger and ready to receive the trousers, and
FIG. 6 is a view similar to FIG. 5 but showing the garment hanger with trousers hung thereon and the suit coat removed.
It should, of course, be understood that the description and drawings herein are illustrative merely and that various modifications and changes can be made in the structure disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the garment hanger for suits is shown as having a main coat hanger 10 for a suit coat and an auxiliary hanger 1 l for the trousers.
The main hanger 10 which can be of conventional type is shown as including a hook 12 of curved configuration to engage a bar or rack (not shown) which has an upright straight shank portion 14 extending therefrom to and through a curved horizontal support arm IS. The shank portion 14 may have a head 16 to retain the arm 15 thereon. The hook I2 is preferably constructed of steel wire but any suitable material may be used which is strong and relatively rigid. The arm 15 may be made of wood or plastic and is of a slightly downwardly curved configuration at the ends to support a suit coat in its natural shape.
The auxiliary trouser hanger 11 has a horizontally disposed lower arm 17 over which the trousers may be hung for storage. The arm 17 has an angularly related support 18 connected thereto at the left end as seen in FIG. 1 and extending upwardly back towards the middle of the arm 17 with a horizontal connected portion 19 extending inwardly and then upwardly until it terminates in a hook 20. The hook 20 is retained in a hole 21 of an L-shaped mounting block 22.
The block 22 has a pivot pin 23 extending from one face 24 on which a latch 25 is swingably mounted. The latch 25 clamps the block 22 to the shank 14 which is engaged in a groove 26 of face 27 of block 22 to support the auxiliary hanger 11 in such a manner as not to contact the coat collar when a coat is mounted on the hanger 10.
In use, the suit coat is hung in suspended relation at the shoulders on the coat hanger 10 in a well known manner and the trousers are hung on the auxiliary hanger arm 17. For the hanging of the trousers on the arm 17 the auxiliary hanger 11 may be secured in place on the hanger 10 or if separated therefrom may be latched and secured on the shank 14 with the shank 14 in the groove 26 and with block 25 rotated to locking position.
The hanger may then be hung in suspended relation on the hook 12 on any bar or rack (not shown) with access to the trousers without disturbing the coat, or moved to another location and when desired may be disassembled as described.
It will be noted that the coat can be placed on the main hanger 10 and thereafter the trousers placed on the auxiliary hanger 11 without interference with the coat, and a reversal of these steps is available. If desired, independent access to either the coat or the trousers is also available to the user.
It will thus be seen that structure has been provided with which the objects of the invention are attained.
Iclaim:
1. A garment hanger for suits which comprises a coat hanger for a suit coat having a curved horizontal support arm,
a hook on said support arm for engaging a bar or rack, a vertical shank portion interconnecting said hook and said support arm,
an auxiliary hanger for trousers having a horizontal bar, a support member connected to one end of said horizontal bar and extending upwardly and inwardly therefrom, said support member having a vertical portion connected thereto, and
a connecting portion detachably secured to said vertical portion,
said connection portion including locking means carried by said connecting portion for detachable engagement with said shank portion, said vertical portion, said support member and said horizontal bar being spaced from the plane of said support arm.
2. A garment hanger as defined in claim 1 in which said locking means includes a mounting block with a groove for receiving said shank portion,
a pivotal latch member carried by said block for mounting in locked engagement and demounting said auxiliary hanger on said coat hanger.
3. A garment hanger as defined in claim 1 in which said vertical portion is offset inwardly relative to said support member.
