Description
.ITED STATES PATENT OFFICEa EDMOND E. NOnTHoUfrT, OE COLUMBUS, OHIO.
HARNESS-LOOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,844, dated February 5, 1884.
Application filed July 6, 18H3. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMOND R. NORTH- OUTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Harness Clasps and Loops, of which the following is a speci cation.
My invention relates to a device for securing the partsof harness or straps together and holding them rmly in place.`
' Y The objects of my invention are, first, to
Fig. 2 is a perspective view, showing the folded portions of a strap secured together by my device, to form a loop for retaining a buckle or ring. Fig. 8 shows a modification of my invention.
Similarletters refer to similar parts throughout'the several views.' y
A represents the central plate or body of my device, which is formed entirely of metal,.said plate being cast with two projecting ears, c and c', on each side and near opposite ends of the plate, the `ears at one end project-ing upward, and at the remaining end extending downward at right angles to the surface of the plate, as shown in Fig. I of the accompanying drawings.
The plate A is also provided near its center 4o with anupward and a downward projecting transverse loop or keeper, b, cast therewith. When it is desired to unite the two portions of a strap forming a loop for holding a buckle orring, the upward-projecting ears c are bent inward and over the edges of the strap B, and pressed down against the surface of the leather. The strap resting on the upper surface of the plate is then passed'through the upper keeper,
b, and folded to form the desired loop. The 5o under portion of the loop is then similarly secured against the bottom of the plate by means of the downward-projecting` ears' c', and the end allowed to pass through the lower metal loop or keeper, if desired.- The ears c and c are each provided with a small perforation, d, near their extremities, into which a small portion of the leather is necessarily forced when the ears are pressed against the strap, thus forming additional security against the slip.- 6o ping of the strap.
As shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the plate Amay be cast with but one loop or 'keeper b, when intended for use on partsbf harness resting against the horse.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and 'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the plate A, side lugs, o and c',- adjoining the ends of said plate, a 7o loop above and a loop under said plate, and made integral therewith, substantially as and for the purpose described.
EDMOND E. NOETHOUTT.
