1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to folding cam stools, the primary object of the invention being to provide a camp stool wherein the leg sections and seat sections are adapted to be folded within the main tubular body of the stool, providing a small and compact article which may be conveniently carried, and one which may be readily set up for use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a stool of this character wherein the pivoted leg members will be secured to the tubular body in such a way as to provide an exceptionally strong stool when extended or opened.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring .to the drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stool constructed in accordance with the invention, illustrating the stool as in its extended position for use.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the tubular body of the stool, illustrating the leg sections and the seat section as enclosed within the tubular body.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the body of the stool is indicated by the reference character 5 and as shown, comprises a tubular section having spaced slots 6 extending inwardly from one end thereof. Secured within the end of the body 5, and disposed between slots 6, are enlargements 1. Disposed within the body 5 is a movable head 8 which is provided with extensions 9 extending therefrom, the extensions 9 being of lengths so that they extend to points adjacent to the inner wall of the body '5, as clearly shown by Figure 5 of the drawing. Extending from the head 8, at points between the extensions 9, are fingers 0 to which the legs II are pivotally connected. These legs ll embody lengths of sheet metal material bent transversely to reinforce them and at the same time provide a longitudinal groove or slot within each leg to accommodate the fingers l0.
Pivotally connected to the leg members H, at points near the free ends thereof, are brace bars 62 two of which bars have their inner ends pivotally connected, one brace bar being provided with a member [3 adapted to fit over the adjacent bar to limit the movement of the bars when they are extended. The remaining bars l2 are pivctally connected between the ears l2, securing these bars to the first mentioned bars l2.
The seat section of the stool comprises a disk It having pairs of openings l5 adapted to receive the ends of the arm [6 that are pivotally connected to the disk It. An annular flange I1 is formed within the upper end of the body 5, and provides a stop for the disk M, to insure against the disk It being pulled from the body 5, when it is being extended.
These arms It are so constructed that they will swing outwardly to horizontal supporting positlons, as shown by Figure 1 of the drawings.
The seat cover is indicated by the reference character [9, the cover being circular in formation and secured to the arms 16 to move therewith. Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, when the disk 14 is pulled outwardly, the arms It can be folded downwardly, stretching the seat cover to provide an exceptionally comfort-able seat.
In order that the legs may be extended, a flexible pull cord 20 is provided, the .pull cord being connected to the brace bars I2 so that when the cord is pulled, the leg members will be extended to their active or supporting positions, as shown by Figure 1.
When the leg members and arms of the seat section have been moved within the tubular body, caps, indicated by the reference character 2| may be positioned over the ends of the body, covering the ends to protect the seat, and legs.
Tongues 22 are provided on these caps and afford means whereby a shoulder carrying strap may be connected with the stool to the end that the stool can be conveniently carried, when not in of the leg section or seat section into the tubular What is claimed is:
