ARTIFICIAL SEAM MARKER Filed March 17, 1943 Inventor Maud M GreQ I m Patented May 2, 1944 UNlTE STATES PTENT OFFICE ARTIFICEAL SEAM MARKER Maud McGrew, Baltimore, Md.
Application March 17, 1943, Serial No. 479,522
6 Claims.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in markers and more particularly to a device for marking artificial stocking seams on human limbs.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a device which can be applied quickly and comfortably to a limb, to the end that the limb can be marked at the posterior side thereof to simulate the seam of a stocking, this being desirable when artificial sun-tan or some other coloring has been applied to the limb in place of a stocking.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a rear elevational View of the device shown applied to a limb.
Figure 2 is a side elevational View of the device shown applied to a limb.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional View taken on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the reference character A denotes a human limb to which is applied the device 5 which constitutes the present invention.
The device 5 consists of a pair of vertically disposed spaced parallel guide rods 6, 6 having their upper and lower ends anchored or otherwise aifixed to sockets 1 of thigh and ankle bands 8, 9. These bands being of elastic material and the band 9 having a short elastic strap H) passing under the foot as shown in Figure 2.
Numeral ll denotes a slider having a pair of openings therein for receiving the guide rods 6, 6, and on this slider II is a knob or the like l2 whereby the slider can be moved along the guide rods 6. The slider l I and the knob l2 are formed with a horizontal opening l3 through which a pencil or crayon I 4 is slidably disposed, with its point end opposed to the limb A.
It can now be seen, that with the slider H at the lower portion of the device and the pencil l4 in place, the slider can be moved upwardly and with the pencil l4 held against the leg A a mark symmetrically located on the posterior side of the leg will be made vertically in such a manner as to simulate a perfectly arranged stocking seam.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A marker of the character described comprising a pair of vertically spaced limb-embracing members, the said limb-embracing members being adapted to remain in place in vertically spaced relation on a limb, a guide member between the limb-embracing members and having its ends attached to said limb-embracing members, and a marker slidable on the guide.
2. A marker of the character described comprising a pair of vertically spaced limb-embracing members, the said limb-embracing members being adapted to remain in place in vertically spaced relation on a limb, a rigid guide member between the limb-embracing members and having its ends attached to said limb-embracing members, and a marker slidable on the guide, said marker consisting of a body having an opening therein for receiving the guide and a marking pencil disposed slidably through the body in opposed relation to a limb engaged by said limb-embracing member.
3. A marker of the character described comprising a pair of vertically spaced and fixed leg embracing members, a pair of guide elements secured to and bridging said leg embracing members, a slider on the guide elements and a marker carried by the slider.
4. A marker of the character described comprising a pair of vertically spaced and fixed limb embracing members, and a marking device intel-posed between the limb embracing members and secured thereto, and including a reciprocatory marker element.
5. A marker of the character described comprising a pair of vertically spaced and fixed leg embracing members, a marking device interposed between and secured to said leg embracing membe s, said device comprising an elongated guide element, a slider on the guide element and a marking element carried by the slider.
6. A marker of the character described comprising a pair of vertically spaced and fixed limb embracing members, a marking device interposed between and secured to said leg embracing members, said device comprising an elongated guide element, a slider on the guide element and a marking element carried by the slider, said marking element being horizontally slidable through the slider.
