DENTIFRICE CONTINING AND DISPENSING TOOTH BRUSH Filed Aug. 9, 1938 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Attorneys UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE e DENTIFRICE CONTAINING AND DISPENSING TOOTH BRUSH Phillip. Seibel, St. Louis, Mo. Application August 9, 1938, Serial No.` 223,971 3 Claims. (Cl. 22h-60) The present invention relates to` a `fountain er sleeve for mounting the toothpaste tube as well style toothbrush and has more specic reference as the puncturing and feed nozzle. to the type characterized `by a vhollow aperl'furedy f Figure `7 is a top plan view of the slide valve head with bristles and a hollow handle, wherein plate. l the handle constitutes a holder or magazine for Figure 8 is a fragmentary view showing theV 5 a collapsibleA tubelof toothpaste puncturable end of the dentrice or toothpaste As is evident from the introductory statement containing tube. of the invention, I am sufficiently conversant with y As before pointed out, the toothbrush head is the prior art to realize that dispensing brushes ya unit, this being hollow and provided with a l0 of this general construction are admittedly old. shank. 'I'he head is unitarily referred to by the 10 It follows therefore, that the object of the present numeral 9 and includes a, main delivery passage invention is to generally improve upon 4prior art In having communication with the tubular shank and marketed brush constructions `bypxovidim; II. Conventional bristles I2 `are utilized on the one possessed of recognized vstructural reflneetlective'face of the head. Then at predeterll `ments and improvements calculated to provide mined points, one or more discharge ports I3 -15 a more satisfactory assembly t0 BOGOUiDliSh the cooperate with the bristles to deliver the paste desired result in a dependable and adequately thereto. The neck 00 l.
O n the Sectlonal hollow handle forming a' maga" 20 is provided with outstanding diametrically oprlfetrflreegrtube 'as wel; as a mount poste retention pins 22 which engage in bayonet slots 23 formed in diametrically opposite portions other features and advantages Wm become of the adapter' and coupling sleeve 24; The part more readlly apparent rm @he following desem 24 surrounds the puncturing nozzle and is an` 35 tion and the accompanying illustratwe drawings. chored suitably in the Shank It projects beyon v In the drawings: f Figure 1 is an elevational view of the brush as thlharito fmta'te aztichmet' ashlsgpgiousj l constructed in accordance with the principles ofk the igor nlrinnghe pCaSti-; hnal'edl't.
the resent invention. 40 Figure. 2 ls a somewhat enlarged longitudinal also constitutes a housing or enclosure for the` section taken on the plane of the central line maiOrPOl'tiOn O f the deuilice .tube J21|- 2--2 of Figure l, portions being shown in elevamagazine Comprlses a mam Channeirshuped SGC'- l tion. tion 26 -hingedly mounted as at 211 on the shank;v` 45 Figure 3 ls a side elevational view showing a The down bentor curved endrortwn 28 nasa Ir fragmentary portion 0f the Shank of the brush keeper indentation to coact with the detent or and the hollow seotionaloasing fol-ming the llenkeeper tang 29 foymed 0n the free end of the die proper as well as the enclosure for the tooth- Complementui Section z9- The part `29 1S a at paste tube and other mechanism, plate and forms the bottom of the enclosure; It Figure 4 is a transverse section 0n the plane of is hingedly mOunted 011 the Shank Il aS indicated the line 4-4 of Figure 1. at the point 30. Thus the companion parts 28 Figure 5 is an enlarged Ycross-section on the and 29 Snap tOgethel t0 provide a magazine for line 5-5 of Figure 1. the cartridge or tube 2|. Incidentally, the part Figure 6 is an exaggerated detail fragmentary 2l is shaped at one end as` at 3l to provide a re- 1 u `sectional and elevational view showing the adapttaining element 32 and this is held in place by a ,u
In opposite side walls the channel-shaped section 23 is provided with slots 3B having rack teeth 36 to accommodate the operating cogs or pinions 31 mounted on opposite end portions of the axle of the compressing roller 31. A suitable knob or operating element 33 is provided on the same axle to turn the roller to express the contents of the tube in an evident manner.
In practice, special cartridges or tubes are manufactured and sold to t in the particular holder 25. 'I'he sections of the holder can be spread open tor allow the tube to be inserted. By completely spreading the sections 26 and 29 the bayonet slot and pin means is readily usable to adjoin the tube 2i to the adapter tting or neck 24. At the same time, under this arrangement the puncturable diaphragm can be readily broken to permit the contents to now, when pressed. through the intake or delivery nozzle Il.
It is obvious that the compressible tube is squeezed or pressed through the instrumentality of the shiftable compressing roller 31. Thus it will be easy for the' user to insert and remove the component parts for expeditious use. Then too, the final discharge of the paste through the ports I3 can be fully regulated by the aforementioned plate valve i4.
It is thought that the description taken in connection with the drawings will enable a clear understanding of the invention to be had. Therefore, a more lengthy description is thought unnecessary.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it is to be understood that minor changes coming within the eld of invention claimed may be resorted to if desired.
