  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • This invention relates generally to the field of paint brushes and more specifically to an adjustable angle paint brush.
  • Paint brushes have been used for hundreds of years to paint surfaces including the interior or exterior surfaces of a home or office or the like. Paint brushes typically are comprised of a shaft portion which the user holds with his or her hand and a bristle portion that is used to retain and spread paint.
  • Occasionally a painter needs to paint a portion of a wall or the like that is above the reach of the arm of the user. In these cases the user must attach a paint brush onto an extension pole. Many painters simply tape the handle of the paint brush onto a pole to reach those hard to get at high places.
  • Unfortunately, the process of taping a paint brush to a pole is unreliable in that the brush my move slightly if the tape job is not secure. Additionally, the use of tape is time consuming and wastefully. Most importantly, the user does not have the option to easily adjust the angle of the paint brush to apply a neat and controlled coat of paint. Finally, the user does not have the ability to easily remove and replace the paint brush head to install specialty brush heads such as a head with a set of bristles that are cut at an angle so that the bristles can more easily and accurately apply a coat of paint at a corner joint where a wall meets a ceiling.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The primary object of the invention is to provide a way to paint in places that are not reachable by simple human arm extension.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a way to paint at any angle while a paint brush is mounted on an extension arm.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a way to remove and replace a paint brush from an extension arm.
  • Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following descriptions, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein, by way of illustration and example, an embodiment of the present invention is disclosed.
  • In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, there is disclosed adjustable angle paint brush comprising: an elongate extension pole, a U joint, a paint brush shaft and attached bristles, said U joint attached to said extension pole, said brush shaft bottom end pinned into the U of said U joint so that said brush shaft can pivot in an arcuate manner, and said brush shaft frictionally fit to the inner walls of said U portion so that said brush shaft can retain its position after the user adjusts said shaft to the desired location.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • The drawings constitute a part of this specification and include exemplary embodiments to the invention, which may be embodied in various forms. It is to be understood that in some instances various aspects of the invention may be shown exaggerated or enlarged to facilitate an understanding of the invention.
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a partial side view of the invention.
  • FIG. 3 is a is an exploded view of the invention.
  • FIG. 4 is a partial side view with an angled bristle brush head.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • Detailed descriptions of the preferred embodiment are provided herein. It is to be understood, however, that the present invention may be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but rather as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed system, structure or manner.
  • Referring now to FIG. 1 we see the adjustable angle paint brush 100 of the present invention. It is comprised of an elongate extension pole 8, U joint member 10, a paint brush shaft 12 and attached bristles 14. The U joint is attached to the end of extension pole 8 and the brush shaft 12 is pinned to the inside of the U portion of the U Joint 10. In this version of the invention 100, the extension pole is comprised of a pair of tubular members 2, 6. Tube 6 telescopes within tube 2 so that the overall length of the pole can be adjusted and locked with standard locking ring 4. FIG. 2 shows a partial side view of the invention 100. Pin 24 can be seen in dotted line form as it engages with the U portion of U joint 10. The side walls of brush shaft 12 and the interior walls of U portion 10 are frictionally engaged so that when the user adjusts the angle of the brush shaft 12, the shaft 12 remains in place until moved again by the user. FIG. 3 shows a partial exploded view and shows that, in the preferred embodiment, the bottom of the U joint portion 10 includes male threads 16 that can mate with female threads 18 located in pole portion 6. This feature gives the user the ability to remove and replace the paint brush portion so that different brushes can be applied for different jobs. Arc line 20 shows the path the bristles 14 can take when adjusted by the user. This allows the user to paint more accurately while painting with an extended brush handle. FIG. 4 shows another brush with a different bristle configuration 22. This angled bristle configuration further improves the ability of the user to accurately paint corner locations such as where a wall meets a ceiling.
  • While the invention has been described in connection with a preferred embodiment, it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention to the particular form set forth, but on the contrary, it is intended to cover such alternatives, modifications, and equivalents as may be included within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
