KINTZ, OF WEST ME RIDEN, CONN.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-SHADE HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 192,153, dated June '19, 1877 application filed October 23, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, PARTRIOK J. CLARK and JOSEPH KINTZ, of West Meriden, in'the county of New Haven and State ofOonnectiout, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lamp-Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side view of a lampshade holder to which our improvements have been applied. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish lamp-shade holders which shall be so constructed that the shade may be turned back to allow the lamp or lamp-chimney to be do tached, and which will enable the shade to be conveniently detached from the holder when The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim. 7
A represents the bracket, which is hung from a keeper or eye-plate, B, attached to a wall or other support. The arm of the bracket is bent upward, is curved outward and downward, and is then curved outwardly and upward with a larger curve, and has a cup or socket, a, formed upon its outer end, to re ceive the lamp 0, which is supplied with a chimney, D, in the usual way. To the upper bend of the bracket-arm is attached,or upon it is formed, a lug, a to the side of which is hinged the end of the shadeholder E, by a said end and screws into the said lug, so that by loosening the said screw thesaid holder may be turned back to raise the shade from the lamp, and by tightening the said screw the holder will be secured in any position into which it may be adjusted, or the screw may be adjusted at such a point that the holder may be held by friction in any position into which it may be adjusted, the wear being taken up by tightening the screw, as required.
F is a band orring which is made in two parts or halves, the ends of which overlap and are secured to each other by screws f, so that the said band can be readily attached to and detached from the shade G. The middie part of one of the halves or parts of the band F is formed solid with, or is rigidly attached to, the end of the holder E. The shade G has a neck formed around its upper part to receive-the band F.
By making the bandor ring F of two halfsections, whose overlapping ends are secured by means of the screws f f, it is possible to easily and quickly lit the same to the neck of a lampshade, the screws serving to retain the shade and hold the sections of the holder together. 7
We are aware that a shade-holder has been constructed in which a band encircling the lamp-collar is constructed intwo sections, which are lap-jointed to each other, or are provided with locking-joints, formed of angular projections on one section, and ways or grooves in the other section.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The lamp-shade holder or ring F, constructed of two sections, having overlapping ends, and held together by screwsff, in combination' with an attaehing-arin-anil a shade, hav ing a neck to receive the holder, as and for the purpose set forth.
