The invention relates to vanity boxes of the type commonly carried. in womenshandbags and containingtoilet articles such as a mirror, cosmetics, etc. l 3
According to preferred form of the invention the vanity may comprise top and bottom covers hinged together, the bottom cover carrying a dispensmg arrangementfor loose powder and the top cover. carrying a mirror and one or. more holders for stick material. A one" piece frame member may be provided for holding the mirror and the one or more holders for stick materialin the top cover. he dispensing arrangement for loose powder may be placed at one endof the bottom cover leaving a recess to accom-; modate the holders for stick materialwhen the'cover is closed: The holdersffor stick or any other desired cosmetic ,material in stick form. lhe dispensing arrangement for loose powder may consist of a sifter arrangementfor dispensing the powderby pressure on a dispensing plate. If desired, instead of using two holders for, stick'material, one" holder for stickmaterial may be provided, making the box correspondingly smaller;
The invention also consists in certain new and'original features of constructionand combination of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed[ f Although the novel features which are believed to be characteristic of this invention will be particularly. pointed out in the claims appended hereto, the invention itself, as to its objects and ,advantages,;the mode of its operation and the manner of its organization may be better understood byreferring to the following description taken in connection holding the stick using a single holder for stick materiall.

" Fig'. .12 represents a mo dified form of box In'the followingdescription and in the claims parts will begidentified, specifici names for convenience, but they are intended" to be as generic in their application tosimilar Like reference characters denotelike parts in the several figuresof the drawings.- i V In the drawingsaccompanying and form ing-partof this specification, practical com mercial embodiments ofl'the invention are i shown, but as such illustrations are primarily for purposes of disclosure, it; will be under stood thatthe structure may bemodifiedin r various respects without departure fromthe broad spirit and scope of the; invention as 1 @hereinafter defined and claimed I i -Referring now tothe drawings, the vanity box comprises a top,cover20,a bottom cover I 21 suitablyhingedthereto. Thetop cover 20 may have a'i'iy-suitable ornamental design on its top outer'surface as illustrated,
The top'cover 20 comprisesabottom wall 22 having upstanding side walls "23, a
front wall 24 and a back wall 25, As shown, V particularly in Fig-"7,- the front and back walls 245 and 25 are curved and extend agrees er distance than the side walls23.
-Heldwithin the top cover 20 is a frame 26 7 having an opening 27 through which the V mirror 28, which may be of metal, is viewed,- the mirror being held between the bottom 1 wall 22 and the frame member 26. The frame member 26 also comprises curved portions 29 and 30 having a doubled-portion 3lther'ebe 5' V tween, these parts cooperating with the bot-. tom wall- 22 to form sheaths and3'5 tohold stick material; 7
-' Bottom wa1ls32 and 83 arerformed'ifroin thematerial of frame 26 for the ,sheaths34 15mm v holders and mirror in the '55 g aj] V and 35, providing closed ends for the holders forstick material. I I I The other ends are open as shown, the adjoining side wall 23 being suitably notched as shown in Fig. 11 to form a complete opening with the edges of the curved portions 29 and i 30. Notches or slots 36 and 37 are provided in the curved portions 29 and 30 for the recep- 3 tube 38 may be completely removed from the from sliding out of the box when it is closed;
' plate 65 and disposed over the slitted plate vanity box and the stick material fed by moving the finger engaging portion 42in a manner whichflis well known in the lipstick apt The larger stick material is denoted by40 and the smallerstick material is denoted by 41. The'stick material 40. may be. a lipstick while the stick material 41 may be eye crayon. It will be understood that suitable nibs 43 are struck in from the side walls 23 to hold the frame plate 26 in position.
Referring now tothe bottom cover 21, this.
cover comprises the'bottom wall having comparatively high side walls 51 and back wvalls 52and 53. .The front and back walls 52 and 53 are curved to meetthe corresponding front and back walls on the top'cover, while the side walls 51 are sufficiently high to extend all the way to the'bottom wall of the I top cover when the case is closed, receiving the side walls 23.0f the top cover between them and thereby: preventing the holder tubes 38 Disposed at one end of thebottom cover is a loose powder dispensing arrangementdenoted by 56. This comprises chamber 58 containing loose powder 68, the chamber 58 having a circular upstanding wall with a squared flange '57 which is held in position by nibs 69 struck in from the walls 51.
Hin ed to the container 58 is a lidor cover 59. The lid 59 comprises a slitted plate 60 having a plurality of spiral slits 64, forming in effect spring fingers therebetween. .he slitied plate 60 has a projecting peripheral wall 63 adapted to engage over the squared plate 57 when the lid 59 is closed. Theslitted plate 60 has a hinge knuckle 61 through which a pintle 62 passes,-this pintle being held by knuckles 132 struck from the squared plate 57. q
Disposed under the slitted plate 60 is valve is a top plate 66, these three plates being held together by a rivet 67.
It will be apparent that by pressingdown on the'top plate 66 the valve plate will also go downwardly yet hold considerable toiletarticles.
allowing the powder 68 to be forced or blown through the slits 64, around the top plate 66 to be taken up by the powder pufi 79. It will be understood that although one loose powder dispensing or sifter arrangement has been disclosed, any type of loose powder arrangement may also be used.
I In the sifter arrangement illustrated, the
tively.
For hinging the top and bottom covers 20 i and 21 together, the bottom cover is provided with spaced knuckles 71, the top cover is provided with knuckle 70 fitting therebetween, a pintle 72 being passed through these knuckles. To provide a catch for the box, a catch-piece 74 is provided having a slot through which a hinge knuckle 73.011 the front'wall 24 is passed. Catch-piece 74 is provided with a recess to engage a projection76 secured'to the front wall 52 ofthe bottom cover 21.
Referring now to Fig. '12 which shows a modified form of box, the top and bottom 1 covers are denoted by 92 and 93, the frame member by 94, mirror by 96', loose powder dispensing arrangement-by 91, the insert by and-the holder for stick material by 95. The construction of this box is practically identical to the construction of the 'box described above, except that the frame member 94 has a single curved portion to accommodate a single lipstick and the insert 90 is correspondingly smaller than the insert'54 since it only has to accommodate a single holder for stick material instead of two holders for stick material. v
Thus a vanity box construction has been disclosed which is neat and attractive in ap- It may be pearance and convenient to use. made thin and graceful in appearance and The favorite loose powder of the user may be dispensed from the dispensing arrangementand the desired stick material such as lipstick an 3 eye crayon may also be used. v p
