This inventionappertains to improvements in floor mops and the like generally, and has for-a1i object "to provide "one of a comparatively simple and inexpensive, but durable 5 and efiicient construction and arrangement of its parts, and which embodies a means to eliminate all necessity for the hands of the user to come in contactwith the water employed with thesame in mopping and scrub- 'bing operations at any time, or for any pur-- pose whatsoever throughout such operations.

In a device o'f'the class described, a hollow handle open at its lower end, a movable member mounted within saidhandle, a mop head detachably secured to the lower end of said member, rack teeth formed at one side of said member, a gear journalled to said handle and in mesh with saidrack teeth, and means for :rotating saidgear to actuate said member to project the mop head outwardly of the open end of said handle for use and to 'thereafterdraw-the same inwardly of the latter to wringwater therefrom and to otherisehouse 'itdur'ing periods of dis-use.

In a deviceofthe class described, a hollow handle open atits lower end, a movable member within said handle, a mop head detachably secured to the lower end of said member rack'teeth formedat one side of the upper end portion of said handle a hollow 'housingcarriedat one side of-said handle and having its interior in opencommunication with the interiorof the handle, a gear journaled said housing andin :mesh with said rack teeth, and a hand crank for rotating said gear to actuate said member to project the'mop head outwardly of the open end of said handle for use and to thereafter :draw the same inwardly of thelattertowring water thereiirom and to otherwise house it'during periods ofdis-use.

In a device of'theclassldescribedm hollow handle openqat its lower end, .a movable member withinsaid handle, a mop head-detachably secured to the lower end of said member, a-guid-e carried by the upperiend of said membenraok teeth formed atone side of the upper end portion-of saidmember, ahollow housing carried at one side-of said handle and having its interior in open communication with the interior of the handle, a gear journalled in said hou-singvand in mesh with said rack teeth,=and a hand crank for rotating said gear to actuate said members to project the-mop head outwardlyof the open' end of the handle for useiandto thereafter-draw the same inwardly of the latter to wringwater therefrom and to otherwise house it during periods of dis-use.-
