This invention has for its object to provide a shade holder iiorincandescent electric lamps having yielding clips to receive the shade and bearing on the lamp bulb for pre venting the accidental release of the shade.

Another object of the invention is to provide such yielding clips on a detachable collar adapted to be threaded on the attachment threads of a lamp socket.

i'linother object of the invention is to provide a shade-holding collar with spring clips adapted to hold the shade in close-fitting relation to the edge of the collar.

.ilnother object of the invention is to provide a shade holder of inexpensive construction, neat and ornamental appearance and which will hold the shade firmly in place with reenforcement from the lamp bulb.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the shade holder as herein claimed and all equivalents.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of reference indicate the same parts in different views,

In these drawings, indicates a lamp socket provided with a threaded head 11 as usual, and 12 indicates the incandescent lamp secured. in the socket. The shade holder, consisting of a. ring-like collar 13 having a cen tral threaled portion 14tof smaller diameter, isa-ttached to the lamp socket by turning said threadedportion on the threaded head 11. Spring clips 15 are secured to the collar 13 by riveting, and said. clips extend inwardly, then downwardly. and then upwardly, their upwardly extending free ends been \D bent to form inclined V-shaped cam surfaces for engaging the edge oi the shade l6 and holding it with spring pressure against a downwardly extending annular flange 1? around the edge oi the collar.

The spring clips 15 are made of sheet bronze or other spring metal and their dowm wardly extending portions'bear against the neck of the lamp bulb 12 in such a way as to prevent the removal of the shade. When the spring clips are entered through the opening of the shade they yield somewhat throughout Serial No. 179,926.;

their entire length but mainly at their downwardly extending portions and at the right angle bend, but they are sullicientlystiil to be unyielding when they bear on the lamp bulb and consequently lock the shade against removal. I

In assembling, the shade is fitted into the collar, then the lamp is inserted and screwed into the socket so that its neck portion ongages the clips and prevents them from yielding, thereby locking the'shade in theholder.

The shade holder oithis invention, while freely receiving the shade by merely pressing it over the V-shaped cam spring surfaces thereof, serves to lock it in place against re moval when the lamp bulb is inserted. By the pressure of these cam surfaces oi the spring clips, the shade is held firmly against the flange 1.7 to form a neat tight-fitting oint between them and the shade will not be permitted to turn or to rattle.

Obviously the shade holder may be made a part of the lamp socket as well as forming an attachment therefor.

hat I claim as new and desire-to secure by Letters Patent is: i 1. A shade holder com rising a collar provided with screw threads for removable con nection with a lamp socket, spring clips on the collar extending downwardly and then upwardly with their upwardly extending ends bent to form V-shaped cam surfaces i'oi' engaging the edges of the opening of a shade and causing the spring clips to yield inwardly as they enter said opening, said clips serving to hold the shade against the collar and adapted to bear on the lamp bulb to prevent their yielding to the removal of the Sl'htC e.

2. A shade holder comprising a lamp socket, a collar threaded thereon and provided w.'th a downwardly extending flange, spring clips on the collar extending downwardly and then upwardly with their upwardly when entering the shade opening and serving'to hold the shade against the flange,

and alamp bulb fitting in the socket and bearing against the spring clips for prevent ing them from yielding to permit the removal of the shade. i
