MANICURE IMPLEMENT.
Application filed- October 9; 1935. Serial no. 61,439.
This invention relates to a toilet article and more particularly to a manicuring implement. An object of the invention is to provide a simple device which is cheap to manufacture and is especially efiicient for use in removing cuticle from the finger .nails, for smoothing and rounding the nails,
and for removing callouses or other thickened and hardened portions of the skin.
A further object is to provide a device for the purpose having a configuration presenting sharp angles whereby cuticle may be readily removed from small corners and angles where the skin overlies the nails, and presenting rounded and curved surfaces for the purpose of quickly smoothing and rounding the edges of the finger nails. It is also an object to provide a device having,
lasting abrading qualities and having certain other new and useful features, all as hereinafter more fully described.
With the above and other ends in view, the invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which-- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a device illustrative of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the device in a different position to more clearly disclose its configuration Fig. 3 is a plan view; and
Fig. 4 is a transverse section substantially upon the lineIV-IV of Fig. 3.
The device as shown comprises a body formed of abrading material such as carborundum, a line, hard cementitiou-s or other suitable material which, preferably, may be made up in a plastic mass and then molded into the desired form and allowed to set or harden. This body has high abrasive qualities and when dry, becomes set or hardened in permanent form with permanently sharp corners and edges. The entire body being formed from the same material, retains its abrasive qualities throughout its entire life.
This body which is indicated as a Whole by the numeral 1 is preferably of rectangular form in cross-section to provide substantially straight rectangular corners 2 and flat opposite sides 3. At one end said body is tapered, its several sides being continued in convergent relation to form the pointed end portion 4, which end portion is also rectangular in cross-section, providing tively sharp corners are presented at this small end of the body to provide cutting angles at said end forthe purpose of removing cuticle etc., from around the finger nails and from corners or depressions where a more extended surface would prevent get-- ting into such corners and the device may therefore be used the same as the ordinary orange-wood stick, pencil or knife, for certain purposes and Without the necessity for applying a liquid to soften the cuticle. The flat sides 3 may be used as abrasive surfaces for removing callouses and the like which be reached by such a surface and to assist in holding the device, a side surface 7 is formed with an elongated concave depression 8 to receive the ends of the fingers of the operators hand which grasps the body, and also provides a smooth rounded abrading depression to receive the end of the finger-nail or other rounding part from which it is desired to remove portions.
The side 9 of the body which is directly opposite the side 7 is preferably a plane .sur- 85 face for a portion of its length and is then inclined toward said side 7 to the end of the body opposite that having the pointed end 4. This end of the body is thus reduced in thickness, and in the inclined upper surface 10 thereof is formed a concavity 11, the inner end of which is rounded and the outer end of which extends through the reduced end surface of the body. This reduced end surface meets the surface 7. at'substantially right angles to provide a broad straight end nails.
are rounded they provide convenient means for rounding and finishing the ends of the finger nails.
To lend strength to the body 1 which is more or less brittle due to its composition,
this body may be reinforced by laying a wire lat orv other suitable reinforcing means in the mold and forming the body around this wire which is thus embedded in the body, extending longitudinally thereof and giving added strength thereto to prevent breakage in case the device should be dropped or accidentally hit against a hard object.
A manicure implement which is very efficient in operation, has long life and good abrasive qualities is thus provided at nominal expense and provides'flat and rounded surfaces and sharp angles particularly adapting it to use.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is 2-- A manicure implement comprising a body which is rectangular in cross-section and is formed wholly of abrasive material, said body having plane side surfaces and a pointed end portion formed by a construction of said side surfaces arranged in convergent relation and presenting corner angles, some of said side surfaces being formed with de pressions the bottoms of which are rounded in cross-section, and one of which surfaces converges toward an opposite side surface to form an inclined end portion at the end of the body opposite the pointed end.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
