UNITED: STATES PERCY a. GALLOWHILL, or rnovrnnnon,
RHODE ISLAND, Ass'renon ro rnnononn w. FOSTER & BBO; COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHoDE ISLAND.
VANITY CASE. f
Application filed February 9, 1925.. Seria1'No.'8,065.
To aZZrwhom it mag concern: 7
Be it known that I, PERCY J. CALLOWHILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vanity Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in vanity'cases and the primary object thereof is to provide a vanity case which embodies a novel cigarette container concealed by-novel means which latter contributes to the ornamental effect of the whole. I
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel structure of cover for the cigarette container, which latter carries powder,
a mirror and rouge.
The invention has still further and other objects which will be later herein set forth and manifested in the course of the following I- r In the drawings z- Figure l isfa side elevation of the invention, the parts being shown in open position, and the fringe being broken away to show the cigarette container and Figure 2 is an enlarged section on line 22 of Fig. 1. I
In proceeding'in accordance with the present invention, a cigarette container 1 is provided having a hinged top 1 the latter provided with a member 1 forming the bottom of a powder containing compartment. A double-faced mirror 2 and a cover 3 for the top 1 are each hinged to the top 1 by means of a common hinge 4. The cover 3 is'formed to receive a cake of rouge. A spring latch has upper and lower catches 6 and 7 on its free end and a thumb piece 8 inorder to latch the cover to the mirror and the mirror to the body, whereby upon lateral movement of the thumb-piece same will release either the cover to expose the rouge or the mirror to expose the powder, or both as shown in the position of the parts depicted in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
An eye 9 is secured tothe cover and has one end of a carrying cord 10 attached thereto, the opposite end of the cordbeing attached to an eye 11 on the center of a cylin drical lip-stick holder 12. The lip-sticks are mounted'in a tubular carrier member 13 longitudinally slotted at '14, and through which slot the shank of a push button 15 slides, the shank of the push button being connected to a cup 16 slidable in the member 13. The cup 16 is formed to receive the inner end of the lip stick. S and is restricted in its outward movement by a .stop 18 secured in the member 13. The member 13 is removably held in the holder '12 by friction.
Fringe 19is secured to the cigarette c0ntainer near the top thereof and is disposed in surrounding relation to the container, projecting at its lower end for a distance therebelow to resemble a tassel in appearance.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the cigarette container is effectually concealed and at the same time serves as a support for the powder, mirror and rouge all of which are incorporated in the top'of the container. It will'be further apparent that the container top may be moved to permit access to the container, and similarly the mirror and the cover of the top may be moved to gain access to the powder, rouge or mirror as desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a vanity case, a container, fringe connected to the container in surrounding relation thereto and depending therebelow to resemble a tassel in appearance, a hinged top for the container having a bottom forming member therein to constitute a powder container, a double-faced mirror hinged to the top, and a cover for the top also hinged thereto to overlie and conceal the mirror, the top, cover, and mirror all being independently movable, and carryingmeans connected to the cover.
2. In' a vanity case, a container, a hinged top therefor, a hinged cover carried by the top, a vanity appurtenance carried by the top and receivable between the top and cover, aflexible carrying member connected to the cover, a handle-forming member connected to the flexible member, and a lip stick carried by the handle-forming member.
3. In a vanity case, an elongated conand receivable therein and being movable independently of the top, and a cover hinged to the top and engageable therewith to conceal the vanity disposed with-inthe top.
4. In a vanity case, an elongated container fringe secured to the container throughout the periphery thereof and at points adjacent to the container top so'as 10 to cause the part of the container below the device when the latter isv top of the fringe to form a substantial support of substantial length for the fringe to hold same in hollow tassel-like formation, a cover for the container, located above the upper edge of the fringe and carrying means for the container.
1in testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification. V
