Be it known that I, DOMINICK NAsTA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reel Supports, of which the following is a specification.

In many branches of the garment trade and elsewhere it is'necessary to sew a great deal of binding tape or similar material upon garments or fabrics, and this tape or binding material is usually furnished upon snools of quite large size, usually formed with pasteboard core and ends. In the usual practice, these spools are placed upon a table or the machine, and when it is desired to-have a free stretch thereof, the machine is stopped and the operator pulls off a length of the tape. This easily becomes tangled; the spools fall off or are knocked down; the pasteboard ends come loose with consequent confusion of the tape; and other objectionable features are present.

My invention is intended to overcome all of these objections by providing a su port for these spools or reels of tape whic can be readily affixed to a chair or similar support, and from which the tape is unwound as desired without any chance of trouble and without stopping the machine or the work.

An object of the invention is to provide such a support that will be simple to manufacture and use but eflioient in operation and which will permit a new roll or spool to be placed in operative position without diiliculty.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device which will be adjustable to different sized chairs and will carry different sized spools or rolls.

Other objects will be apparent from the following detailed description and the appended claims.

These may be of any desired type. Attached to each of the side rungs of the chair is a supporting'member comprising two semi-circular members 1 and 2 hinged together at 3 and each having an car at provided with an opening 5 for the passage of a bolt 6 upon the end of which screws a wing nut 7. This bolt may be of the form illustrated injFigures l and 2, or similar to that shownin Figure 3, and may have othernuts than the wing form shown, but this, is very convenient when it is desired to applyor remove the support. Into the inner member 2 is screwed one end of a substantially right angled rod 8 which is positioned with its vertical arm pointing upwardly. This rod or arm may be attached to the member 2 in some other manner if desired.

A rod 9 has a considerable portion of each end screw threaded as shown, and circular guide plates 10 screw thereon. Outside of the guide plates there are screwed on the rod 9 hollow tubular members 11 having transverse openings 12 therethrough near their outer ends. These openings fit over the vertical arms of the rods 8.

lVhen it is desired to assemble the attachment, the clamp members are afiixed to the rungs of the chair or similar support. One guide plate 10 is screwed on to one end of the rod 9, as well as one tubular member 11. The roll or spool of tape D is then slipped over the rod 9, this spool usually having a cardboard core E and cardboard ends F. The other guide plate 10 is then screwed upon the rod 9 into position such that the roll or spool will revolve freely but without unnecessary )lay between the plates 10. The other tu ular end 11 is then screwed in position. The length of the threaded portions of the rod 9 is sutlioient to permit the tubular members 11 to be threaded on the rod 9 to a greater or less extent to conform to the distance between the hook members 8. It is not necessary that the tubular members 11 be screwed up against the plates 10, although for some purposes this is preferable.

A new spool or roll can be placed in position by removing one tubular member 11 and one end plate 10, as is obvious. It will be apparent that there is no chance for tangling of tape, dropping of the spools or any other of the objectionable features attending the usual practice. The tape. unwinds freely and is always at hand.

As is evident, various details may be modified in form without departing from the threaded spirit of the invention Which is to be regarded as limited only by the scope of the appended claims. 7

I claim as my invention: 1. A reel support comprising two clamps adapted to be attached to the rungs of a chair or the like, upwardly projecting arms carried by said clamps, a rod, guide plates carried by said rod and members carried by the ends of the rod and provided openings to fit said arms.

2. A reel support comprising two supporting members, upwardly projecting arms carried thereby, a rod adapted to pass through the core of a reel, retaining plates carried by said rod, tubular members carried by the ends of the rod and provided with openings to receive said arms.

3. A reel support comp-rising a rod screw at its ends, guide members threaded on said rods, tubular members threaded on said rod outside the guide members, and supports adapted to receive the tubular members.

4. A reel support comprising a rod, guide plates adjustably mounted on said rod to hold a reel between them, tubular members adjustably mounted on the ends of the rod outside the guide plates, and supports adapted to receive the ends of the tubular members.

5. In combination with the rungs of a chair or similar support, a reel support comprising members adapted to be clamped to 6. means for mounting and retaining said rodv in operative relation to said members.
