HENRY N. PAGE, OF MANSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DIES FOR DRAWING JEWELERS HINGE-STOCKS.
Specification formirg part of Letters Patent No. 146,272, dated January 6,1874; application filed May 28. 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY N. PAGE, of Mansfield,Bristol county, State of Massachir setts, have invented an Improved Hand-Tool or rDrawing-Plate for making Attachments for Breast-Pins; and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents a front view of the drawing-plate; Fig. 2, a back view of the same. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 exhibit the tubes formed by being drawn through the drawing-plate; and Fig. (5 shows how the tube is soldered to the back oft breast-pin, forming a joint for the pin.
The invention is represented by a metallic plate about three inches in length, one and a half inch in width, and three-eighths of an inch in thickness, having two adjustable pressing-plates with a screw-press at top. The object is to form two tubes or joints at the same time, the base and tubes being of one. piece of sheet metal, instead of, as heretofore, making single tubes, and soldering the tube to the back of a breast-pin, the soldering being frequently imperfect, and the joints thereby insecure. I split the base through the center lengthwise, dividing it into two pieces, and form the joint of the size required for attaching the pin, by grooving out the part to receive the joint of the pin. The tube is always firm and secure, as the pin operates with the curve of the tube instead of opening it.
A represents the metallic plate; B B, the pressing-plates with the aperture J in the center, through which the sheet metal strip is drawn to form the two tubes O G. D is a pressing-plate at top, operated by two screws, E E, to hold the pressing-plates B B firmly in place. The aperture J is similar to a double cone, with the wide ends in front, so as to gradually turn up the sides of a sheet-metal strip, and pass it out at the rear in two tubes.
What I claim as my invention,'and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the plate A, pressingplates B B with their aperture J, top pressingplate D, and screws E E, when constructed and operating as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
