, T 0 all whom-it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH ROSENBERG, a citizen of the United States. residing at Ch'cago, in the county of (ook and State of Illinois, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Floor Lamp, Table Lamp. and Pedestal, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in combination floor lamp. table lamp and pedestal, and one of the objects is to provide an improved sectional and interchangeable device of this character whereby the same may be readily converted into a floor lamp or a table lamp as may be desired, a portion of the device being also adapted to be employed as a pedestal or a standard to which a table top may be readily attached or detached therefrom.
To the attainment of these ends andthe accomplishment of other new and useful objects as will appear, the invention consists in the features of novelty in substantially the construction, combination and'arrangement of the several parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings illustrating-this invention and in which Figure 1 is a view partly in vertical section and partly in elevation showing the device employed as a floor lamp.

Figure 8 is an enlarged detail sectional View showing the manner of telescoping the lamp supporting legs with the base section. The floorlamp consists essentially of a base section 10, an intermediate section 11, and a lamp supporting section 12, all constructed of any suitable material and'of any desired size and configuration.
The base section 10 is preferably provided withlegs 1'3 and in the upper end thereof is a socket '14 of any desired size.
If desired this socket may be provided with a collar 15 therein and which collar in turn is provided with inwardly projecting lugs 16.
Arranged within the base section "are conductors 17, a contact member-'18 beingcomnected with the conductors and projecting through the bottom of the base section 10 and to which contact 18 is adapted to be connected the socket of an ordinary conductor, the other end of which may be connected with any source of supply. of electricity.
A similar contact 19 is connected with the conductors 17 adjacent the upper endof the base section 10 and this contact 19 projects into the socket 14 and is provided with the ordinary spring controlled pins or terminals 20.
The intermediate section 11 is reduced at its lower extremity as at 21 to form a shoulder 22. Encompassing the reduced portion 21 is a collar 23 which projects ,for a short distance beyond the end of the reduced portion 21 and is provided with bay onet slots 24, which extend through the end of the sleeve. The diameter of the reduced portion 21 and the sleeve 23 is'such that the reduced portion 21'of the section 11 will fit .end with a socket 25 having fitted therein a sleeve 26 provided with inwardly projecting lugs 27. This socket 25 is preferably of a considerable depth for a purpose to be hereinafter set forth. I Arranged within the section 11. are conductors 28, to the lower end of which is connected a contact member 29 which latter projects beyond the extremity of the reduced portion 21 of the sect on so that when the portion 21 is telescoped with the section 10,- the end of the contact 29 will engage the't'erminals or pins 20 of the contact 19.
A similar contact 30 is connected with the conductor 28 and projects for a considerable distance into the socket 25. This contact 30 i also preferably'provided with spring controlled pins or terminals of the ordinary and well known construction.
The lower extremity of the lamp carryin section 12 is reduced as at 32 and secure scoped into the socket of the intermediate section 11. The section 12 is then rotated with respect to the section 11 and these parts will be secured together for free detachment.
Arranged within the lamp section 12 are conductors 35, having a contact member 36 connected with one end thereof and which projects beyond the end of the reduced portion 32, so that when the parts are assembled the contact 36 will be operatively connected with the contact30.
Any desired number of lamps 3? may be carried by the lamp section 12.
Any desired number of legs 38 are pivotally connected as at 39 with supporting brackets 40 secured to the end of the reduced portion 32 of the lamp carrying section 12 and the legs are preferably provided with flat portions'41 to form faces which are adapted to engage and rest against the bottom of the section 12' when thelegs are unfolded. These faces engaging the end of the section prevent the legs from collapsing when the section 12 is detached from the pedestaland placed upon a support, so that the section 12 will constitute a table lamp. When it is desired to employ the lamp section 12 inconnection with the pedestal so as to form a floor lamp the legs 38 are collapsed orfolded with respect to each other and are adapted to be inserted in the socket 25 when the section 12 is connected with the section 11, the socket 25 being of a sufiicient depth to-receive the legs.

With this improved construction it will be manifest that when the sections are assembled so as to form a floor lamp the legs 38 .will be concealed and when it is desired to detach the section 12 to employ the same as a, table lamppthis maybe readily acoome plished by giving the section 12 a slight ro-. tation with respect to the section 11 to position the bayonet slots so that the section thereduced portion 32 of the section so as to permit the connection therewith of the socket of a suitable feed conductor.
\Vhile in the present form of the inven tion' the floor lamp'is shown as being cone structed in three sections, it is obvious that any desired number of sections may be employed, and if desired'the section 10 may be so constructed as to eliminate the section 11 so that the section 12 may be connected directly with the section 10; All that is necessary in that event is the constructing of the socket 14 of a sufiicient depth to receive the legs 38.
Thesection 10, constituting the base of v the pedestal is also adapted to be used as a support or stand for a table top 43, when the sections 11 and 12 are detached therefrom, the section 10 being preferably constructed of substantially. the same height as an ordinary table. r
The table top 43.is provided with a projectin portion 44 extending from the lower face t ereof and secured to this portion 44 is a collar 45 having bayonet slots 46, the collar and bayonet slots being of the same construction as the collar 33 and slot 34. Arranged within the table top 43 are conductors 47, having a contact 48 connected with one end thereof and whichcontact projects beyond the projecting portion 44 so that when the table top is secured to the standard or pedestal 10 by inserting the portion 44 in the socket 14 and interlocking the pins or lugs 16 in the bayonet slots 46, the contact 48 will be operatively connected with the contact 19.

While the preferred form of the invention has been herein shown and described it is to be undelstood that various changes may bemade in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, within'the scope of the claims. without departing from thespirit of. this invention. 4
What is claimed as new is 1. An article'of the character described embodying a sectional pedestal embodying a supporting base, means detachably securing the sections together above the base, a lamp proper connected with one of the sections, and an additional base carried by the lamp carrying section for supporting the latter when the lamp carrying section is detached t'ro'm the other section. the said additional base being concealed within the pedestal when the said sections are secured together.
2. .\n' article of the character described embodying a sectional pedestal, positive means detachably securing the sections together.a lamp proper connected with one of .the sections, and a base carried by the lamp carrying section for supporting the latter when the lamp carrying section is detached from the other section, the said base bemg collapsible and adapted to telescope with the said other section when the sections are assembled.

An article of the character described embodying a sectional pedestal, positive means detachably securing the vsections to gether, a lamp proper supported by one of the sections, and legs pivotally connected to the lamp carrying section and adapted to be moved apart for supporting the. lamp carrying section when it is detached from the other section, said legs being also adapted to be moved together to telescope into the next adjacent section when the sections are assembled. An article of the character described e'mbodying a sectional pedestal, means detachably securing the sections together, a lamp proper supported by one of the sections, legs pivotally connected to the lamp carryingv section and adapted to be moved apart'for supporting the lamp carrying section whenit is detached from the other section, said legs being also adapted \to be moved together to telescope into the next adjacent section when the sections are assembled, and
means operatingupon thesaid legs formaintaining them in both of the said positions. 4
An article of the character described embodying a sectional pedestal, means de-' sembled, and means operating upon the said legs for maintaining them in both of the said positions, the last recited means embodying a resilient means adapted to exert. stressupon the legs on the opposite sides of the center of the pivots of the legs.

An article of the character described embodyinga sectional pedestal, means detachably securing the sections together, a lamp proper connected with one of the sections, :1 base carried by the lamp carrying section for supporting the latter when the lamp carrying section is detached from the other section. the said means embodying telescoping portions between the sections, and a pin and slot connection between said portions, the said base being concealed within the pedestal when the sections are connected together.

An article of the character described embodying a sectional pedestal, means detachably securing the sections together, a lamp proper connected With one of the sections, a base carried by the lamp carrying other section, and means for supplying cur rent to the lamp, a portion of the last recited means being carried by each of the said sections.

An article of the character described embodying a sectional pedestal, means detachably securing the sections together, a lamp proper connected with one of the sections, a base carried by thelamp carrying section for supporting the latter when the lamp carrying section is detached from the other section, and means for supplying current to the lamp, a portion of the last re.- cited means being carried by each of the said sections, the said portion that is connected with the said lamp carrying section being adapted to be rendered active when the latter is detached from the other sec: tion. 1

An article of the character described embodying a sectional pedestal, means detachably securing the sections together, a lamp proper supported by one of the sections, legs pivotally connected to the lamp carrying section and adapted to be moved apart for'supporting the lamp carrying section when it isdetached from the other section, said legs being also adapted to be moved together to telescope into the next adjacent section when the sections are assembled, and a slngle annular spring member housed within the lamp carrying section v and operating upon the legs and operable thereupon for maintaining themin both of their positions, the said spring being carried by the legs and shiftable to opposite sidesof the pivots of the legs.
