Be it known that I WILLIAM E. WILLIAMs, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at twan l ra-ncisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of Calitornia, have invented certain new and useful improvements in (lame Boards, of which the following is sliecification.

This iiivention relates to a new and useful improvement in game boards, and is particularly adapted to the type oi? wherein a number of game pieces, such as checkers or the like, are'adapted to be used with the board, and which are subject to loss and frequent dropping during the execution of the game.

The principal object of this invention is to construct the game board in such a mannor as to provide for the storage ot the game pieces when not in use and further provide means for retaining the game pieces on the board during the game, or adjacent thereto.

In this specification and the annexed drawings, the invention is illustrated in the form considered to be the best, but it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to such form, because it may be embodied in other forms, and it is also to be understood that in and by the claims following the description it is desired to cover the invention in whatever form it may be embodied.

Referring to the drawings in detail:

It will be noted that there are two sec tions, the first section having a bottom 5, upstanding walls 6, 7, 8 and 9, which form a tray. A similar tray is formed by the bottom 11 and upstanding walls l2, 13, 1 and 16. These trays are jointed together by hinges 17 and 18 so that one tray be folded over and uponthe other tray. Each tray is provided with a division wall as shown at 19 and 21., thus "forming two receptacles in each tray. The central or adjacent receptacles are each provided with a block as indicated. at 22 and 23. These blocks are so constructed as to have their upper suriaces upon the same plane and at Renewed March 13, 1922. Serial No. 543,457.

a point somewhat lower than the upper surface of the surrounding walls. These blocks 22 and 23 are further provided upon their upper surfaces with markings such as shown at 24;, 'WlllC'l] markings are common in game boards and need no further description.

It is obvious that this board mipfht be constructed by pressing the same out of fibre, composition or parting from the spirit of this invention. The receptacles at the sides oi? the bloclts 22 and 23 serve the double purpose of storing the game pieces when the board is not in use, and also to retain the game pieces which may be removed front the board during the play. It is well known that in games of this character, certain game pieces are removed during the game and if held in the hand are liable to be dropped, where with my board, the same may be placed in the receptacles at the sides and will always be available.

When stored or not in use, one section may be folded upon the other, thereby saw ing storage space and at the same time pro. riding; a neat structure.

Having; described my invention, what Ll claim as new and novel is:

1. A. folding game board, composed oltwo sections hinged together at their meet ing corners only, whereby said sections, when open present a clear and unobstructed game field, said sections having rectangular receptacles at their outlying edges, for disused men, said sections, thither, havir y a thickness approximating the depth of said receptacles, thereby adapting the board to lie fiat upon a table and present a flat iieli'l, said receptacles adapted, when the board is folded, to register and, together, constitute a container for the men.
