' Z /ll\\\ ll" 1 BY am? @211 ATTORNEYS INVENT FIG. W 4, 254a COLUMBUS A. BENTON, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
SAFETY-RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 5, 1921.
Application filed March 10, 1920. Serial No. 364,662.
ToaZZ whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, COLUMBUS A. BENTON, citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a safety razor.
One object of the invention is to provide a razor of the character described which is provided with a double edged blade, held in position by Y edge of the blade in use is protected against accidental injury or dulling.
Another object of the invention is to provide a safety razor which can be readily cleansedafter use.
A further object of the invention is to provide asafety razor which is of simple construction and which may be cheaply and easily manufactured With the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein- Figure l is aside view of the razor,
Fig. 2 is a rear View,
. Fig. 3 shows a perspective view'with the blade and guard removed,
Fig. 4 shows a plan view of the blade and,
'Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of the blade guard.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each .of the figures, the numeral 1 refers to the handle to one end of which the blade support 2 is secured. This support is formed of a rectangular plate and its forward edge is down wardly curved and notched to form the protecting fingers 3. Each end of the support 2 has an upstanding shoulder 4 and. its upper face has an upstanding boss 5, at each end. A double edged blade 6 is provided, whose ends are provided with notches 7, which re-.
means of a guard whereby the ceive the bosses'5, when the blade is fitted on ItS SHPPOI G for use. The blade is held in posltion, whenin use by means of a guard 8. This guard is substantially U-shaped in form and its upper edgehas the flatextension 8 which lies against the blade and its other edge is formed into a clamp 8 which clamps the support underneath to hold the guard in position and to maintain the blade in place. The back part of the guard is arcuate in form, as shown in Fig. 1, and the front side of the arcuate portion has the lateral projections 9, 9 which abut against the shoulders 4, 4 to hold the guard spaced from the inneredge of the blade to it from dulling said blade while the outer edge of the blade is in use, as illustrated in Fig.1.
The parts may be readily first placing the blade on its then slipping the guard over support until the projections 9 abut against the shoulders d and the parts may be taken apart for cleansing and the like by a reverse operation.
What I claim is:
A safety razor, including a handle, aplate-like blade support fixed to said handle. and having a smooth upper face and a downwardly curved free edge, end bosses carried by said support, a double edged blade having end notches whichreceive said bosses when the blade is placed on said upper face, a blade guard formed to clamp said blade on its support, and having a flat extension which lies on said blade, shoulders projecting upwardly fromthe ends of said support. and lateral extensions carried by the guard which abut against said shoulders to hold said guard spaced from the corresponding edge of the blade.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
