LOUIS KAHN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN REVERSIBLE NECK-TIES OR SCARFS'.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,305, dated April :2, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS KAHN, of the city, and State ot' New York, have invented an `Improved ReversibleNeckT or Scarf; and the following is declared to be a correct description of the same.
Neck-ties have been made of woven material with the two sides ot' diiierent patterns or colors, and in soule instances bows and cra vats have been lined with ditlerent-colored fabric from the outer or exposed side.
My invention consists ina two-sided bow or cravat attached to a reversible and two-sided irame or shield at two points, in combination with an elastic loop that is connected to the lower edge ot' said frame, wherebyr the bow or cravat can be worn with either side outward, as desired, and thus one bow or cravat can be used instead of two, and the variety of colors and patterns obtained.
In the drawing, Figure l shows a cravat and frame laid out flat, and Fig. 2 is an edge view of a bow with the frame in place for use. Fig. 3 shows the cravat and frame laid out flat, and illustra tes the differing pattern upon the same.
The bow or cravat a is to be of suitable size and shape, and so also is to be the frameA or shield b that sets up into the collar around the neck. The frame b is connected to the bow or cravat u by sewing the same at the points c c, so that the connection is iirm; but the frame can be swung over to either side of the bow or cravat, as may be necessary or 'occasion require. lhe silk or ornamental covering of the frame should be the reverse of that of the bow, so that the sides l 2 of the bow and frame, respectively, shall be of thesarne fabric, and the sides 3 4 of a different fabric, but corresponding with each other 5 thereby the sides that are visible at the same time will be of the saine fabric; but the shield or frame may be made of or covered with any desired material.
The elastic attachingloop e is upon the cravat-frame and attached to the lower' edge, so that it can be passed through an eyelet from either side and buttoned over the collar-button.
I claim as my invention- The craVat-bow a, made with a frame, b, at-
tached to the bow at the upper edge, so as to be reversible, in combination with the reversible elastic attaching loop fastened to the frame, as set forth.
Signed by me this 10th day of January, 1872.
