Referring to the drawings, 4 is a yoke pivoted at 5 and cast around a swivel pin 6. The lower end of this swivel pin terminates in a block 7 which is riveted between upward projections on two hook-halves 8 and 9, which lie together face to face, and one of which is provided with lugs 10 lying in notches in the other, to hold the parts in the proper relative position.
The two hook-halves are curved apart from.
a point near the bottom of the hook to the upper end so as to leave between them a space circular in cross-section and in this space is confined a spring 11 which fits over a projection 12 on the rear end of a finger 13 which is curved to conform to the general curvature of the hook. The finger terminates in an enlarged end 14 which, as the finger is pressed forward by the spring, contacts with the opposite end of the hook.
The operation of the device is, of course,
entirely clear from the description of its construction. The finger is retracted by hand against the pressure of the spring, passing in this movement into the hollow. between the two hook-halves. This opens the hook to receive any object which it is desired to secure in place thereon and the finger is then released, entirely closing the hook and making the accidental displacement of the object held impossible. The device is particularly adaptable for use in connection with hay forks, taking the place of the usual sisterhook. For this purpose the present device is greatly preferable, more particularly because it can be operated with one hand,'while .the sister-hook usually requires one hand on each member of the sister-hook.
I realize that considerable variation is pos sible in the details of the construction herein shown, and I do not intend to limit myself thereto, except as pointed out in the following claim, in which it is my intention to claim all the novelty inherent in the device as broadly as is permitted by the state of the art.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In a hay-carrier tackle, a sheave, a yoke pivotally connected to said sheave, a pin pivoted in said yoke and terminating in a block at its lower end, and a hollow hook formed of outwardly curved halves between which said block is riveted.
