ELIAS J. PATTON, OF GALIEN, MICHIGAN.
IEONING-TABLE.
To all whom it may concern:
it known that l, ELIAS J. PATTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galien, in the county of Berrien and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Ironing-Table, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ironing tables, and particularly to collapsible tables of this character.
This invention contemplates the provision of simple, inexpensive, serviceable, convenient and etllcient ironing table which may be compactly and readily folded and which will be substantial when erected.
The above ends have been attained by the provision of the structure set forth in the following description and pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that this device is susceptible of alterations or deviations in its details within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The preferred embodiment of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters indicate similar parts, and wherein Figure l is a side elevation of the ironing table erected. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof when collapsed or folded. Figs. 3 and 4 are top and bottom views, respectively, of the device when collapsed or folded.
Referring specifically to the drawings, the ironing board is designated by the numeral t which has a pair of cleats or blocks '7 secured to the bottom thereof adjacent the sides and in proximity to the butt end of the board, and a pair of blocks 13 are secured on the top of the board at the respective sides of the board and at the butt end thereof, which blocks each have a plurality of seats or notches 11 therein, the seats or notches of the two blocks being in lateral alinement. A pair of vertical legs 9 are pivoted at their upper ends to the outer sides of the cleats 7 by means of a rod 8 passing through the upper ends of the said legs and through the cleats. The legs 9 are connected adjacent their upper ends by the rung 11, which extends or projects slightly beyond the legs, and inclined legs 10 are fulcrumed on the extremities of the rung 11, the said legs 10 having a rung 12 connecting the upper ends thereof and which Specification of Letters Patent.

is normally adapted to engage in a pair of the laterally alined seats or notches 14 and iass over the butt end of the board to support the other end of the board. The lower ends of the respective pairs of legs 9 and 10 are connected by the rungs 15 and 16, and the vertical legs 9 have diagonal braces 17 connecting same to overcome the lateral strain to which the table is subjected when in use.
In use, when the table is erected, the rung 12 passes over the butt end of the ironing board 6 and engages in one pair of the laterally alining seats or notches 14- to support the other end of the board, the board being supported by the legs 9 and 10. It will be noted that the vertical legs 9 being pivoted adjacent the butt end of the board and the legs 10 being pivoted to the legs 9 and having the rung 1?. connecting the upper ends thereof and passing over the buttend of the board to support the tip or other end of the board will leave the tip or other end of the board unobstructed or unencumbered underneath same, which is desirable in the use of the ironing board. To collapse or fold the table, the rung 12 is disengaged from the seats or notches 14 and by swinging the 9 rearwardly or toward the butt end of the board 6 the rung 12 is carried rearwardly and the rung depressed below the board and then by swinging the legs 9 forwardly or toward the tip of the board, the rung is carried under the butt end of the board. The legs 9 may then be folded within the legs 10, and the respective pairs of legs 9 and 10 may then be folded compactly against the bottom of the ironing board 6 as clearly illustrated in Figs. 2, 3 and the rungs 15 and 16 connecting the lower ends of the respective pairs of legs 9 and 10 preventing the legs from swinging beyond the board and thereby serving as stops. In the reverse manner, the table may be erected for use.
The table as provided by the present invention is simple, inexpensive, serviceable, convenient and efficient, and may be readily and-compactly folded when not in use, and when erected is substantial in construction.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. An ironing table embodying an ironing board, a pair of legs pivoted thereto adjacent the butt end thereof, a pair of inclined legs fulcrumed to the respective aforesaid legs, and a rung connecting the upper ends of the inclined legs to pass over the butt. end of the board and support the other end of the board, whereby the rung may be swung below the butt end of the board and the two pairs of legs may fold together and against the board.
2. An ironing table embodying an ironing board, a pair of cleats secured to the bottom of the bOflICl at the sides thereof and in proximity to the butt end e pair of blocks secured on the top of the board at the sides and at the butt end thereof and having laterally alining seats thereiln vertical legs pivoted to the cleats, a rung connecting the vertical legs adjacent the upper ends, in-
clined legs fulerumed on the said rung, and a. rung connecting the upper ends of the in clined legs and adapted to engage in the respective seats of the said blocks to support the tip of the board, whereby the rung may le swung below the butt end of the board and the two pairs of legs may fold together against the board.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
