Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve working efficiency and to decrease exposure dose by providing plural fuel rod restraining means for gripping a fuel rod and constitut ing a title device in such a manner that the fuel rod can be withdrawn and inserted remotely and automatically. CONSTITUTION:Chucks 132A and 132B of this nuclear fuel rod inserting and withdrawing device move in the directions where the chucks approach each other as fuel rod restraining guides 132 move further from a fuel assembly until finally the chucks come into contact with each other and, therefore, a dummy fuel rod 4' is gripped by means of two pieces of the chucks 132A and 132B. Furthermore, the insertion of the OX fuel rod in place of this dummy fuel rod 4' is executed by picking up the dummy fuel rod 4' by a pick and place mechanism 25, removing the rod from above supports 131 and, in turn, placing the fuel rod 4 on the supports 131 by means of the same pick and place mechanism 25. The withdrawing of the fuel rod in the state of restraining the same not only in the axial direction but in the direction perpendicular to the axis as well is executed with this device and the high reliability is obtd.
