Abstract

PURPOSE:To mass-produce a glass lens by simple mechanical work and heat- treating work at low cost by placing a cut and ground glass stock in a pan die, heating and softening it and also using a biconvex-shaped lens stock produced in the pan die. CONSTITUTION:A glass stock 13 is cut and worked to a disk and both end faces 16, 17 are ground in optical specular surfaces. The glass stock 13 is set in a pan 11 and after introducing this whole body into an electric oven and holding it at about 750 deg.C for about 5min, it is taken out from the electric oven and thereby a lens stock 21 which has a biconvex shape and is controlled in outer diameter by the pan die can be obtained. The lens stock 21 can be easily taken out from the pan die by such relation that the thermal expansion coefficient of the glass stock is larger than the thermal expansion coefficient of the pan die made of tantalum. When the lens stock obtained by such a way is arranged in a cavity 44 molded by upper and lower dies 41, 42 and a drum die 43, pressed and molded at 500 deg.C, a molded lens free from a burr can be obtained.
