Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently remove carbon particles from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine, by conducting the exhaust gas through between high-voltage-applied electrodes to electrify the gas to collect dust and using the heat of the gas to burn the collected dust.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas flowing from a diesel engine and containing carbon particles enters into a casing 1 through its port 2 and is electrified by a high voltage applied across inner electrodes 5 and a collector electrode which is provided on the inside of the casing 1 and made of catalyst-containing metal wool or the like. Electrified particles are gathered on the collector electrode. The gathered particles are burned by catalytic action when the temperature of the exhaust gas is high. The combustion gas is conducted out of the casing 1. According to this constitution, carbon particles are efficiently removed.
