Abstract
PURPOSE:To heat steel material uniformly at an excellent heat efficiency in a soaking furnace for bloom, by equipping an auxiliary burner at the lower part of the inner wall of a furnace, to which a heating burner is installed, in order to heat the lower part of the steel material piled in the furnace. CONSTITUTION:Steel material 3 such as bloom is piled crosswise in two parallels in a soaking furnace 1 for the steel material 3 and is heated with a combustion flame of a burner 2 attached at the upper part of the furnace wall 1-1, the exhaust gas being discharged through the lower flue 4. The lower portion 3-3 of the piled steel material 3 is heated at a slower rate, hence an auxiliary burner 6 is installed at the lower part of the same furnace wall 1-1, at the same time, the inlet 4-1 of the flue 4 is decreased in size to the irreducible minimum of a demand. The auxiliary burner 6 is of rapidly burning short flame type and it burns fuel corresponding in quantity of 1/10-1/3 that burned in the soaking furnace. The lower layer portion 3-3, which is insufficiently heated only by the burner 2, is heated rapidly, so that the whole steel material 3 is heated uniformly in a short time, and the heat efficiency of the furnace with reduced consumption of fuel per unit product is improved.
