PURPOSE:To prevent adsorption of carriers on a clamping member by positioning the surface of the clamping member further from a developing electrode than the surface of a photoreceptor. CONSTITUTION:A sheetlike photoreceptor 2 let-out from a let-out roll 3 as shown by an arrow B passes through an opening 4 and goes to the outside of a drum 1, thereby covering the peripheral surface thereof. Again it enters the drum 1 through the opening 4 and is taken up on a take-up roll 5 as shown by an arrow C. A sealing member 6 which is used to close the opening 4 prevents the entry of the developer into the drum 1 and clamps the photoreceptor 2. This sheet 6 is retracted from the cylindrical surface formed by the photoreceptor 2. Then, in spite of expanding of the spacing from the developing electrode, no effect is given to the developing of image parts, and the electric field due to a developing bias power source is weakened. As a result, the sticking of the carrier to the seal 6 is prevented.
