Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the effect of removing erosion chips and gas bubbles in wire cutting electric discharge machining by a method wherein a high-frequency vibration is applied to the wire electrode by plate-shaped vibrators arranged adjacently to the workpiece. CONSTITUTION:Thin disc-shaped vibrators 5 each having a through hole 5a or cut groove 5b to pass a wire electrode 1 which penetrates through a workpiece 4 and moves between guides 2 are provided on one or both sides of the workpiece 4 adjacently thereto and vibrated at a high frequency by an oscillator 6. The vibrator 5 is made of a piezoelectric monocrystalline crystal and the like or piezoelectric ceramic and vibrates with an amplitude of the order of 1-3mum in the circumferential direction of the disc and at a frequency of the order of 1kHz-1MHz. The vibrators 5 are arranged as adjacently to the workpiece 4 as possible, and it is preferable that the vibration frequency is more than 500kHz on account of improvement in machining efficiency. By forming a dielectric fluid circulating passage 12 so as to envelope each vibrator 5 to cool, a stable vibration can be obtained.
