Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of abnormal data in case of connection of a different kind of PCM data, by comparing the result of error detection of the PCM reproducing signal with the error correcting syndrome to inhibit error correction.
CONSTITUTION: Encoder 14 of signal processing device 2 performs the interleave processing, where left and right-channel PCM data and error correction codes corresponding to them are delayed by different times, and adds error detection codes to them and transmits them to VTR1. Decoder 17 of device 2 detects the error of the receiving signal from VTR1 and performs the deinterleave processing cancelling delay to correct the error. In this case, if an error occurs according to the operation of change-over switch 6 of VTR1, decoder 17 compares the result of error detection 30 with syndrome 41, which is formed for error correction, in 42 to inhibit error correction 32. As the result, the occurrence of abnormal data due to the error correcting operation which uses different kinds of PCM data is prevented.
