Abstract

PURPOSE:To simultaneously form an image with good gradation and a high- reliable binary image by alternately providing a thermally sublimable ink layer and a hot melt transfer ink layer mainly composed of a specific thermoplastic resin in the longitudinal direction of a substrate. CONSTITUTION:In a transfer ink ribbon, tissue, such as heat-resistant film or condenser paper, is used as a substrate, and on the substrate a thermally sublimable ink layer and a hot melt transfer ink layer are formed in combination. Here, the thermally sublimable ink layer is dividedly coated with four colors by using Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, and Black thermally sublimable inks in combination. The hot melt transfer ink layer is mainly composed of: a thermoplastic resin made of a linear satd. polyester resin formed by a condensation polymerization of a dicarboxylic acid component and a diol component, and an acrylic resin having a glass transition point of 50-100 deg.C; a colorant; and a lubricant. On a card-type recording medium 50, a portrait image 51 is formed with the thermally sublimable ink, and a character image 52 is formed with the hot melt transfer ink.

<Prior Art> Today, cards are widely used in various fields, and their types and uses are wide-ranging. Various information is usually recorded on such cards. One example is magnetic recording on a magnetic recording layer provided on a card, but the majority of information is visual information. As a method of recording visual information, printing is a common method for making multiple copies of the same information. Furthermore, embossing, laser recording, etc. have been conventionally used to record individual information. Furthermore, recently, color images have been recorded using various imaging devices and small combinators. A common method for this is thermal sublimation recording using thermal sublimation ink.

Heat-sublimable ink can control the amount of heat-sublimable dye transferred to the recording medium according to the amount of heating, so it can be used not only for binary images such as characters, but also for images with gradation such as photographic images. It also has the feature of being able to record. However, on the other hand, heat sublimation inks generally have lower thermal sensitivity than heat melt transfer inks, and are prone to re-sublimation of heat sublimation dyes, bleeding, etc.
The problem was that the reliability of recorded images was poor due to color fading. The reliability of recorded images is at a level that does not pose any practical problems when used as a general image printer, but when recording two images such as character recording at the same time as gradation images,
This is insufficient for applications requiring recording that requires high contrast in recorded images.

In such cases, it is common practice to record a binary image on the card using heat-melting ink, but since normal heat-melting ink is mainly composed of wax, the recording is not durable and is prone to rubbing and friction. It has the disadvantage that records can be easily lost due to such reasons, which has been a problem for cards. The cards mentioned here include prepaid cards, commuter passes, gift certificates, admission tickets, cash vouchers such as train tickets, credit cards, and ID cards such as ID cards and student ID cards, and all of them include character records. There must be no risk of tampering or deterioration of visibility.

<Means for Solving the Problems> The thermal transfer ribbon of the present invention has a structure in which a heat sublimation ink layer and a heat melt transfer ink layer containing a thermoplastic resin as a main component are alternately and repeatedly provided in the length direction of a base material. The image forming method of the present invention uses a thermal transfer ribbon configured as described above, and for images having gradations such as face photographs, a thermal head or a thermal head as a heating means is applied to the heat sublimation ink layer. By applying thermal energy according to the desired image density using a printing plate, heat sublimation ink is transferred and a gradation image is recorded on the card. For binary images such as character images, thermoplastic ink is used. Binary images are recorded on the same card by transferring heat-melting transfer ink, which is mainly made of resin and has high durability, using the same heating means. As a result, a gradation image and two An information recording card on which a value image is transferred and formed is obtained.

The heat-sublimable dye receiving layer is not particularly limited, and any known material used for general heat-sublimation printers can be used. Regarding the size of the area where the receptive layer is provided,
For information recording cards, a face photo is the most necessary.
Therefore, it is necessary to have a size commensurate with the size of the facial photograph. Specifically, the short side is 2.5 cm, the long side is 2.5 cm, and the long side is 2.5 cm.

Transfer ribbons include polyester film, polyamide film, cellophane film with a thickness of 3 mm and 50 pm,
A heat-resistant film such as an aramid film or a thin paper such as capacitor paper is used as a base material, and a heat-sublimable ink layer and a heat-melting transfer ink layer are provided on the base material. Here, the heat sublimation ink layer may be one coated with a known heat sublimation ink used in general video printers, etc. When performing color recording, it may be coated with three colors of yellow, magenta, and cyan. In addition to the above, it is also possible to use one that is coated in four different colors by further providing a black heat sublimable ink layer. Of course, if only black recording is performed, a heat sublimable ink layer of one color, black, may be used.

The heat-melting transfer ink layer is a thermoplastic resin made of a linear saturated polyester resin formed by condensation polymerization of a dicarboxylic acid component and a diol component, and an acrylic resin whose glass transition point is in the range of 50°C to 11 (L"C). This is a heat-melting transfer ink layer mainly composed of a resin, a colorant, and a lubricant. The above-mentioned saturated polyester resin has the effect of improving the adhesion of the transfer layer, and the preferable amount added is 1O2 based on the entire thermoplastic resin. The above-mentioned acrylic resin imparts plasticizer resistance to the overcoat layer, and the glass transition point was determined to be 50°C or lower due to chemical resistance and plasticizer resistance. Temperature is insufficient, 110℃
This is because the thermal sensitivity becomes too low if the temperature is higher than that. The colorant is not particularly limited as long as it has good visibility; for example, carbon black and various inorganic and organic pigments can be used. The above-mentioned lubricant is required to improve the abrasion resistance of the recording formed on the recording medium, and specifically, Teflon powder, polyethylene powder, waxes, metal salts of higher fatty acids such as zinc stearate, etc. can be used. .

The thermal head, which is the heating means, can be a flat-bed type used in ordinary thermal printers, but if the card is particularly thick and difficult to bend, it is preferable to use an edge-type thermal head that has a heating element on the edge of the board. There are no particular restrictions when using a heat stamp plate.

Heat-melt transfer ink has almost the same thermal sensitivity as heat-sublimation ink, so it does not require a separate heating means for transfer, and can be used with thermal heads or heat stamps used for sublimation transfer recording. It is highly convenient because the board can be used as is.

As a result, a photo image of a face with good gradation was obtained using the heat sublimation ink, and a character image with high contrast and strong resistance to rubbing and friction was obtained using the heat melt transfer ink. When a friction test was performed by rubbing the character image 30 times with a plastic eraser, no blurring of the character was observed. Further, when rubbing was repeated 30 times, a slight decrease in density was observed, but there was no damage to the characters and there was no problem with legibility.
