Description
図1を参照して、本実施形態に係る、表示装置の全体構成を説明する。なお、説明をわかりやすくするため、図示した物の寸法、形状については、誇張して記載している場合もある。以下において、表示装置の例として、OLED(Organic Light-Emitting Diode)表示装置を説明するが、本開示の特徴は、液晶表示装置や量子ドット表示装置等、OLED表示装置と異なる任意の種類の表示装置に適用することができる。
TFT基板100上には、複数のOLED素子E1のアノード電極にそれぞれ供給する電流を制御する複数の画素回路が形成されている。図2Aは、画素回路の構成例を示す。各画素回路は、駆動トランジスタT1と、選択トランジスタT2と、エミッショントランジスタT3と、保持容量C1とを含む。画素回路は、OLED素子E1の発光を制御する。トランジスタは、薄膜トランジスタ(TFT)である。OLED素子E1のカソードには、電源電位VSSが与えられている。
図3は、ドライバIC134の論理要素を示す。ドライバIC134は、タイミングコントローラ400、データ受信部421、パネル制御部423、階調電圧制御部425、ソースドライバ427、及びDC/DCコンバータ429を含む。タイミングコントローラ400は、輝度制御部402、色制御部404、ガンマ補正部406、及び階調補正部408を含む。これら機能部は、ロジック回路(ハードウェア)、又は、プロセッサ(ハードウェア)及びプロセッサにより実行されるソフトウェアの組み合わせ、により実装可能である。
以下において、階調補正部408による画素のデータの補正について説明する。図4は、比較例の表示領域125が、特定パターンの画像を表示した時の、表示領域125の部分領域251A~251Iの輝度を模式的に示している。部分領域251A~251Iは、共通の形状を有する。特定パターンの画像は、中央の黒の矩形及びその周囲の白の領域で構成されている。表示領域125における中央の部分領域251Eは黒である。その周囲の部分領域251A~251D、251F~251Iそれぞれが、白である。

前記第4減算量は、前記第5減算量及び前記第6減算量より大きい、

前記制御回路は、前記複数の副画素に対して、データ信号を同時に出力する、
表示装置。 - 表示装置における画像のデータを補正する方法であって、
階調レベルの範囲を分割した複数の区分それぞれに対して、減算量が割り当てられており、
前記減算量は、最も明るい区分から最も暗い区分に向かって減少しており、
前記方法は、
一つの副画素行の複数の副画素それぞれの輝度を示す階調レベルを取得し、
前記階調レベルの分布に基づき、前記一つの副画素行の補正対象領域を決定し、
前記補正対象領域における副画素それぞれの階調レベルが含まれる区分に対応する減算量を、前記副画素それぞれの階調レベルから減算する、
ことを含む方法。 - 表示装置における画像のデータを補正する方法であって、
異なる数の階調レベルの区分からなる複数の区分グループが定義されており、
前記複数の区分グループそれぞれの各区分に補正量が割り当てられており、
前記方法では、
一つの副画素行の複数の副画素それぞれの輝度を示す階調レベルを取得し、
前記複数の副画素の階調レベルの分布から所定の指標を算出し、
前記指標に基づき前記複数の区分グループから一つの区分グループを選択し、
選択した前記一つの区分グループに基づき、前記複数の副画素それぞれの階調レベルの補正量を決定し、
前記複数の副画素それぞれの階調レベルを前記補正量だけ補正する、
ことを含む方法。
