Description
図1は、第1の実施の形態に係る液晶表示装置の画像表示領域とその周辺の概略を示す平面図である。同図に示すように、額縁状のブラックマスク3と画像表示領域1の間の周辺領域に、常時白の表示を行うダミー領域2を設ける。
赤色カラーフィルター ・・・ S’CF < SCF
緑色カラーフィルター ・・・ S’CF < SCF
このような構成としたことで、半透過画素4のカラーフィルターの透過領域7で期せずして生じる反射光の光量に対して、反射画素5のカラーフィルターの透明領域11での透過光の光量により明るさのバランスを取ると共に、半透過画素4と反射画素5における白色度の値を近づけて、画像表示領域1とダミー領域2における反射率及び色味の違いを改善することができる。
以下、第2の実施の形態に係る液晶表示装置について説明する。
赤色カラーフィルター ・・・ (S’CF / S’) > (SCF / S)
緑色カラーフィルター ・・・ (S’CF / S’) > (SCF / S)
このような構成とすることで、青色のカラーフィルター8Bでは、反射画素5の透明領域11での透過光により明るさを確保し、赤色、緑色のカラーフィルター8R、8Gでは、反射画素5と半透過画素4とで双方の白色度を調整し、画像表示領域1とダミー領域2における反射率及び色味の違いを改善することができる。
上記各実施の形態においては、カラーフィルター8R、8G、8B若しくはカラーフィルター8Bにおいて、反射画素5における面積比率SCF/Sが、半透過画素4における面積比率S’CF/S’よりも大きくするような構成にしたが、少なくとも1つの同色のカラーフィルター8において、各面積比率が上記大小関係を満たしていればこれに限られるものではなく、例えば2色のカラーフィルターについて各面積比率が上記大小関係を満たすように反射画素5と半透過画素4とで反射率及び白色度を調整してもよい。

Claims (3)
- 反射領域及び透過領域を持つ半透過画素が複数配列された半透過表示領域と、
この半透過表示領域の周辺に反射領域のみを持つ反射画素が複数配列された反射表示領域と、
前記半透過画素及び反射画素の反射領域内に複数の色毎の透明領域が設けられているカラーフィルターと、
を具備し、
少なくとも1つの同色のカラーフィルターは、前記反射領域のみを持つ前記反射画素内の透明領域と反射領域の面積比が、前記反射領域及び透過領域を持つ前記半透過画素内の透明領域と反射領域の面積比よりも大きく、
前記反射画素の反射領域におけるセルギャップは、前記半透過画素の反射領域におけるセルギャップと同等であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記反射画素の反射領域の面積は、前記半透過画素の反射領域の面積に等しく、
前記反射画素のカラーフィルターに設けられた透明領域の面積は、前記半透過画素のカラーフィルターに設けられた透明領域の面積よりも大きいことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記カラーフィルターは、赤色、緑色、青色の3色のカラーフィルターで構成され、
前記反射画素の反射領域の面積は、前記半透過画素の反射領域の面積よりも大きく、
青色のカラーフィルターにあっては、前記反射画素に設けられた透明領域と反射領域の面積比が、前記半透過画素に設けられた透明領域と反射領域の面積比よりも大きく、
赤色、緑色のカラーフィルターにあっては、前記反射画素に設けられた透明領域と反射領域の面積比が、前記半透過画素に設けられた透明領域と反射領域の面積比よりも小さいことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
