Abstract
1455696 Plate heat exchangers; hot water boilers ING A BERETTA COSTRUZIONI METALLICHE SpA 10 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 57051/73 Headings F4S and F4A In a plate heat exchange unit for a gas fired hot water boiler comprising a plurality of vertically disposed rectangular plate elements 1, 1a arranged in pairs to define alternating flow passages for water and combustion gases respectively, each plate element has a ribbed surface including border ribs, e.g. 8, 9 at two opposite sides thereof and inclined transverse ribs, e.g. 5, 6 extending between and integral with the border ribs. Through holes 3a, 4 are provided at opposite corners of each plate element for the circulation of water to be heated. The ribs extend into the combustion flow passages each of which contains a vertically movable diaphragm plate 10 which when placed in the centre of the passage serves to deflect the upwardly flowing combustion gases diagonally on impingement with the ribs, as indicated in Fig. 6, half the fluid flow being deflected in one direction and half in the opposite direction. Bent over edges 11 and 12 rest on the oppositely inclined ribs of adjacent plate elements to retain the diaphragm plate in position. A rod 13 connected to control means (not shown) permits the plate 10 to be selectively withdrawn in an upwards direction, Fig. 5.
