Abstract

A periodic anaerobic baffled reactor (drawing 3) characterised by that consists of two concentric cylinders with the space between them divided into circularly arranged compartments, with vertical baffles, where each compartment consists of two parts, one downflow narrow part and one upflow wider part, where the effluent enters into the reactor, flows through the downflow part of the first compartment and rises to the upflow part of the same compartment, wherefrom, it passes via external tubes to the next compartment with a repetition of the process and passage to the next compartment up to the exit of the reactor, so that it may operate both as simple anaerobic baffled reactor (
