989,895. Tyre bead construction. PNEUMATIQUES, CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE ET PLASTIQUES KLEBERCOLOMBES. Feb. 9, 1962 [Feb. 10, 1961], No. 5110/62. Heading B7C. In a tyre comprising a carcase of parallel cord plies 5 anchored to bead cores 2, the ply edges are slit along the line of the cords to form tongues 7 which, in a regular sequence, are wrapped around the associated bead core, some in one direction and the others in the opposite direction. Fig. 1 shows successive strips 7 wrapped in opposite directions around a single bead core 2, but two or more consecutive strips may be wrapped in one direction with the following strip wrapped oppositely. The strips may be of different widths, with wide strips interspersed with narrow strips, the wide strips being turned outwardly and the narrow strips being turned inwardly about the bead core, or vice versa. Fig. 4 shows a bead comprising two side-byside cores 2<1>, 2<2> and a four-ply carcase wherein all four plies extend between the two cores and the four-ply tongues 7<1>, 7<2> being wrapped around different bead cores.
