Abstract

968,612. Work-holders. PRINCE MACHINES Ltd. Oct. 10, 1962 [Oct. 17, 1961], No. 37156/61. Heading B3B. A collet comprises a hollow cylindrical body 10 with a head 11 having a rearward facing conical surface 12 and three equally spaced radial slots 13 extending rearwardly through the head and body. The rear end of the collet has an externally threaded portion 14 and three equally spaced radial slots 15 extending towards the head, off-set to the slots in the head. To facilitate the operation of the collet it is located in a sleeve 16 having a taper 17 which cooperates with the conical taper on the head 11. A sleeve nut 18 is slidable within the sleeve and engages the threaded portion 14 of the collet and has a hand gripping portion 19 which projects from the sleeve. When the sleeve nut is tightened the collet is drawn into the sleeve, the co-operating conical faces close the jaws radially to grip a workpiece and with further tightening of the nut the co-operating surfaces of the thread flanks close the rear end of the collet to grip the workpiece.
