Abstract

952,395. Self-feeding brushes. G. HANNINGTON. Dec. 14, 1962 [Dec. 14, 1961], No. 44865/61. Heading A4K. In a brush 1 through which water is fed from a mains supply, a pressbutton 25 controls a flow of detergent through pipe 15 from a tank under mains water pressure. As shown, water from the mains supply tap 33 is fed directly into detergent tank 44 through pipe 43 and stand pipe 44. The water also flows in the opposite direction in pipe 43 to the brush. In another position of a rotary plug valve, water from tap 33 runs downwardly to waste thus by-passing pipe 43. On pressing button 25, pipe 15 is allowed to expand away from fixed cross-pin 23 and detergent enters pipe 52 which has a bleed hole 53. The detergent mingles with the water in pipe 5 and the mixture emerges from hole 3 in rubber stock 2. In another form of tank (Fig. 4, not shown), the water enters between a flexible detergent containing lining, which is collapsed as the tank is filled with water, and the tank wall. Alternatively, an airtight tank may have a partition so that, on filling one compartment with water, air is transferred into the other to displace the detergent therefrom. The tap fitting may have separate inlets for hot and cold water. According to the Provisional Specification, the detergent may be in a squeezable container having a valve so that a pliable tube 15 can be filled with detergent by squeezing the container. The mains water pressure then feeds the detergent from tube 15 to the brush. A slide valve may replace the rotary plug valve for running the water to waste. Reference is made to the use of a suction feed for the detergent.
