949,824. Selective printers. COMPAGNIE DES MACHINES BULL. Dec. 28, 1962 [Jan. 9, 1962], No. 48948/62. Heading B6F. Type-carrier.-A printer comprises a typecarrier in the form of a flexible belt 10, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, having longitudinal slits 111, 112, 113, 114 so that only a light impression force is required to displace a selected part of the belt. Type-selection.-The flexible belt 10, guided in guides 31, 32 that are coated with polytetrafluoroethylene to reduce friction is moved longitudinally by a dog 41 engaging an aperture 115 and which is rotated by a driving shaft 42. The belt 10 is also raised or lowered to position a selected row of type 20 by raising the guides 31, 32, effected by rack 62 and pinion 60. In a modification, Fig. 5, the type-carrier 10 is moved longitudinally by a lateral motor 45, the carrier 10 being slotted at 115 so the guides 31, 32 and belt 10 can be vertically adjusted. Hammer-compression arrangements.-A hammer 52 is thrown by a electromagnet 51 to engage the type-carrier and is restored by a spring.
