Abstract

944,076. Ornamenting. L. E. MONSMA. April 5, 1961, No. 12133/61. Heading B6G. A transparent or translucent article having a flat surface is decorated by making the surface level and pouring on to the surface a coating material in pourable liquid form and allowing it to dry, the coating material including a solution or dispersion or both of a synthetic resin or a derivative thereof, colouring matter with or without fillers so as to provide transparent, translucent or opaque effects as desired. The synthetic resin may be a polymer or copolymer of ethylene, acetylene or polyvinyl acetate. It may be thickened by addition of polyvinyl alcohol, methyl cellulose, or rendered to the desired consistency by addition of methanol, butyl acetate, ethyl acetate or toluene. As shown (Fig. 1) the outlines 12 of a motif or design are formed on a sheet of glass 10 by applying a coating material in ribbon paste form. Into the various areas so defined (13a, 13b, 13c &c.) variously suitably coloured coating materials are poured. The outlines 12 stand proud of the surface and separate the different coats. If desired blobs and stripes 'may be added from a pipette. If desired, a thin layer of clear lacquer may be applied over the coats of coating material when they have set.
