Abstract

927,853. Bending tubes. HILMOR Ltd., and J. H. HAWES. Dec.23, 1959 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 41573/58. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXVIII] A polyethylene tube 10 is formed with a bend while cold by threading the tube through a straight copper tube 11, placing the assembly between the forming tool 12 and the roller 14 of a bending machine and bending the assembly whereby the tube 11 serves to hold the bend in the tube 10. The tube 11 may be provided with a bead at or adjacent each of its ends. To facilitate threading a plug is inserted in the end of the tube 10 with a hemispherical end projecting from the tube end. The bending machine may be either power-operated, as shown, or hand-operated. According to the Provisional Specification, the bend is formed by holding the polyethylene tube between two metal pressings or castings each comprising a central semi-circular portion shaped longitudinally to conform to the bend and two flanges one at each edge of the semi-circular portion. The flanges of the two pressings or castings are bolted or riveted together.
