Abstract
The invention comprises 21-dihydrogen phosphates of steroid compounds having the general formulae <FORM:0913941/IV (b)/1> wherein R represents a keto or hydroxy radical, X represents a hydrogen or halogen atom, and Z represents a b -alkyl radical, and the preparation thereof by reacting the required 21-iodo compounds with silver dihydrogen phosphate. The above process may be modified in that the 21-iodo compound is prepared by a process described and claimed in Specification 913,943. The Specification also includes a large number of examples which describe the preparation of compounds falling within the scope of the above formulae. Therapeutic compositions useful for the alleviation of arthritis contain the 21-dihydrogen phosphate steroids defined above e.g. in the form of an injectable aqueous solution. Specification 906,443 also is referred to.
